For neighbors experiencing homelessness, relationships are critical…
Those who were no longer homeless said, “Having someone who believed in me, someone who stuck with me, who coached me was critical.” From Dr. R. Noee, Open Doors Together We Thrive Event

There are many patterns of homelessness people experience.
Acute homelessness is due to a crisis (like losing a job, medical bills, rent increases) or a life change (like military discharge or leaving foster care).
Episodic homelessness happens from time to time and looks like couch surfing or staying with different friends or family.
Chronic homelessness is the smallest population of persons experiencing homelessness. These neighbors have experienced homelessness for more than one year or 4 times in the last 3 years.

“Homelessness is a condition. It’s not the person and it’s awfully easy to view homelessness as ‘the homeless’ as if it is the person or a personality trait and it really isn’t. It’s a condition and there’s a wide variation of people who will become homeless.” Dr. Roger Nooe, Professor Emeritus, UT Knoxville.
