Sweethearts of the West is a Colorado non-profit equestrian drill team made up of young ladies from across the front range sharing a common passion for horses, teamwork, community and leadership. Sweethearts of the West embraces the western way of life through actions and deeds; promoting the sport of rodeo; participating in community and charity events; and showcasing drill performances at rodeos throughout the year.

General information

MEMBERSHIP REQUIREMENTS Age - members must be at least 17 Equine- members are not required to own a horse but must have a signed lease agreement with access to a horse and trailer to participate (stallions are not allowed). Practice - attend weekly practice rides which may begin as early as March (weather permitting). Event/show season- May through mid August. Must be able to commit to at least 50 -75% of the show schedule. Off Season - During the off season, we volunteer / participate in a wide variety of charitable events. Not mandatory 2018 MEMBERSHIP APPLICATION Open Membership Dates: September 1, 2017 - April 22, 2018 Qualifying ride - applicant must complete at least 1-3 "Qualifying Rides" during open membership to determine level of equitation skill. Equitation skill - Drill team experience is preferred but not required. Applicant must possess a competent level of horsemanship and equitation skills to be considered. Membership Fee - At the successful completion of the "qualifying rides" a notarized application along with the required membership fee is required. ​ If you or someone you know is interested in membership or learning more about our team, visit our website for more information.

In addition to our performance team, Sweethearts of the West is a 100% volunteer group promoting and bringing awareness to rodeo and other non-profit organizations through education and volunteer support. We contribute over 2,000 volunteer hours each year towards to community and charity events throughout Colorado.

Our Story

Sweethearts of the West, Inc. began in 2013 with a vision to be different and to bring meaning to what we do. We made a promise, with our mission, to “Promote the western way of life through goodwill and a love for the sport of rodeo”.

Sweethearts of the West, Inc. is a performance-based drill team and a heart to provide volunteer support and bring awareness to other charities throughout the year. The Justin Cowboy Crisis Fund; National Western Stock Show; Volunteers of America; and the Miracle Party, just to name a few. These charities, while different, are really the same. From injured rodeo athletes; Colorado’s homeless; children fighting cancer; and funding education and scholarships in agriculture and veterinary medicine, each offers support and a hope that helps keep our western spirit alive!
