As the library moves to its new location at the Catalyst on Main Street in Kittitas, we're excited to see more community support and participation. Your involvement—whether through using the library, joining programs, volunteering, or engaging with others—will play a vital role over the next 6 to 12 months. Together, we can show our community leaders how important it is to secure a permanent and sustainable home for our beloved library.

We encourage residents to:
• Visit the library regularly
• Check out books and materials
• Attend programs and events
• Volunteer with the Friends of the Library
• Bring children and grandchildren to activities
• Participate in community discussions
• Share ideas for future services and programs

Every library visit demonstrates community need. Every program attendee shows public support. Every library card strengthens the case for investing in our future.

Despite years of uncertainty, relocation, and limited resources, the library has continued serving our community with dedication and resilience. Now the community has an opportunity to help shape what comes next. The decision before us is to preserve an essential community resource that supports literacy, education, economic development, families, workforce readiness, public access to information, and community safety. Strong libraries help attract young families, strengthen local communities, and create opportunities for lifelong learning. Thank you to the Chamber of Commerce for letting us secure a space at the Catalyst.

Together, we can demonstrate that our library is not temporary — it is essential.

The next 6 to 12 months will be critical. With strong community involvement and visible public support, we can help secure a permanent future for the Kittitas library and continue building a resource center that serves and strengthens our entire community for generations to come.

The library is currently located in City Hall and is open from 12 PM to 5 PM on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. If you don't have a library card, feel free to stop by and sign up; they are free.

The Friends of the Library are looking into acquiring new bestsellers for our library collection, including titles for youth, young adults, and adults. We will keep you updated. Additionally, you can send us your book requests, and the Friends will do their best to accommodate them.

Watch for our “Grand Opening” as soon as we are settled. We will post on our page and the Library's page and place an announcement in the Daily Record. If you would like to be notified of our progress by email, please email [email protected] with "PROGRESS" in the subject line.

Happy National Library Week! The Friends of the Kittitas Gilmour Library would like to acknowledge our hard-working volunteers, our Library Board of Directors, and the City of Kittitas for their support and dedication this past year. We also want to celebrate each and every person who has supported the library—thank you for being part of our story. A special thank-you as well to all the libraries across Kittitas County for your support during our time of transition. We are blessed to live in Kittitas County with amazing libraries.

The Friends are excited about the idea of picking up a couple of best-selling books! One you might consider is Andy Weir's "Project Hail Mary," the author of The Martian. Now a major motion picture from Amazon MGM Studios starring Ryan Gosling, directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, with a screenplay by Drew Goddard.

We have a new email address as our previous one was compromised. If I have learned anything from it, please keep those passwords up to date. My tendency is to make a change and write it down. For which I do. Then I get busy and either don't know where it is, or it was stuck somewhere on a sticky note. It is a nightmare to have to start from scratch. Hopefully, a lesson was learned.

Their response is we do this for your protection. I'm so protected that everyone but me can get into them. Ha Ha, like I said, lesson learned. :-)
