🌊⚙️🎨 And… We’re Off! Monday was the first day of CoastX 2026 programs!

Yesterday, our Blue Art Adventures students kicked off an incredible week of creativity, exploration, and ocean-inspired artistic expression. The energy and excitment was contagious. CoastX summer learning officially gets underway!

CoastX students ventured out on the Utopia to the "studio" for the next three days. After a wonderful introduction and exploration of the musuem and history, students got right into art mode.

It was a full day of drawing fish, creating group and individual cyanotypes, photographing for future edits and inspiration.

Taking advantage of CoastX's artist/Lobsterman, Scott Heisey, we pulled traps and everyone had an opportunity to practice banding a lobster, set free a scalpin and and spider crab, and get to know each other a bit better as we head into the rest of the week.

🎨🌊 What if your child's art studio was the ocean?

This summer, CoastX invites middle and high school students to experience a one-of-a-kind creative adventure where art, exploration, and the coast come together. Kittery Point, ME and Portsmouth, NH

Unlike traditional art programs, students don't spend the week inside a classroom. Instead, they explore the Maine and New Hampshire coast aboard the CoastX research vessel M/V Utopia, create art at historic Wood Island Life Saving Station, observe marine life with underwater ROVs and drones, work alongside professional artists, and even experience life on the water with local lobstermen.

A heartfelt thank you to Kittery Foreside's Salty Spirits , Deb McCluskey, and the entire team behind the incredible "Shuck It Forward" benefit on June 9 in support of CoastX!

We are especially grateful to the 30+ friends, supporters, and community members who came out to enjoy the evening and support CoastX's mission. Your generosity will help provide hands-on ocean science, engineering, innovation, and art experiences for local students, including scholarship opportunities for families who need them.

If you haven't visited Salty Spirits yet, we highly recommend it. From the amazing Foreside location and welcoming atmosphere to the outstanding food, craft cocktails, and coastal vibe, it's one of the Seacoast's great gathering places.
