Last week, CoastX officially launched its new immersive school-day ocean learning program — OceanXplorer: A CoastX School Experience — designed for middle and high schools across Maine, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts to offer their students.

The program expands access to on-ocean experiential learning at a time when some research suggests that up to 35% of students in Maine and New Hampshire have never been OUT ON the ocean!

The inaugural school was Noble High School in North Berwick, Maine. Students spent the day at Wood Island Life Saving Station and onboard Portsmouth Harbor Cruises’ Utopia, working alongside marine engineers, scientists, educators, and artists while exploring the ocean through science, technology, and art.

Throughout the day, students piloted underwater ROVs, conducted marine science and water-quality testing, explored the Gulf of Maine ecosystem, and participated in Blue Art activities — all through immersive, hands-on experiences. In addition, they learned about the history of Wood Island and the brave work done by the surfmen.

This new CoastX program brings together ocean science, engineering, creativity, and real-world exploration to help inspire the next generation of ocean innovators and entrepreneurs.

A huge thank you to a foundation donor for helping fund a portion of the program. We also extend our appreciation to Noble High School, Island Life Saving Station Harbor Cruises, the CoastX team, and our volunteers for helping make this launch possible.

5 NEW Scholarships just provided by a donor!

We are thankful for the generosity of a donor who initially paid for 10 student scholarships, and they helped students who otherwise would not have been able experience a CoastX program. They have all been awarded.

BUT, It was so impactful, they just added 5 NEW ones to help any family who may not qualify for traditional need-based assistance but would still benefit from reduced program tuition.

Some sessions are already filled, others only have 2 spaces left, so act quickly.

A local donor LOVES CoastX and asked how they could help families who might be under some financial pressure in this economy, but don't qualify for the Key Collective or similar level of financial support.
The donor is willing to fund partial APPROVED scholarships for NEW REGISTRATIONS ONLY and registrations received no later than May 18th, 2026. Limited to 4 more scholarships awarded based upon accepted application and circumstances on a first-come-first-serve basis. Application Required.

The CoastX Opportunity Scholarship is designed for families facing real budget pressures such as high household expenses, multiple children in summer programs, or recent financial changes.

WHAT TO DONATE
Remember there‘s a customer for all tastes and styles… so while you may not like a certain item, there’s someone out there who will! Here are a few ideas of what works well at the shop:

-Antiques and Collectibles: Small boxes, silver items, small pin trays, hair ornaments (combs, barrettes hand mirrors, etc)
-Artwork: Framed prints and original artwork, boxed note cards, museum replica jewelry
-Home Decor: Table linens, quilts, handmade rugs, accent mirrors, accent furniture (small)
-Books in almost new condition: Home decorating, craft books, popular novels, and art books are popular!
-DVDs: No VHS tapes, please
-Decorative textiles: Old sewing items, silver thimbles, needle cases, pincushions
-Jewelry: Costume, antique, modern, what have you!
-Handbags: Tote bags, all kinds of small bags, leather, beaded, etc
-Better Quality Clothing: Including scarves and accessories.
-Footwear: Those nice shoes you bought and never wear because they just don’t fit right!
-Things that you were given as gifts that you never use!
