3 simple rules I live by:

1. No one gets out of here alive.

2. You can't take it with you.

3. Start where you are, use what you have, do what you can.

The Pawty Truck is on the way to North Carolina - tomorrow morning, I'll meet up with Partners! Canines to help transport 30 more animals to rescue.

By tomorrow evening, they will all be on their way to new lives with North Shore Animal League America.

Thanks to the amazing efforts of both of these organizations, 30 more pups will not only live to see another day, but also forever change the lives of people they haven't even yet met - and that, is the greatest reward in animal rescueπŸ•β€

Strong gusty winds in the northeast cancelled our rescue flight plans for today, so another memory for our 11 year anniversary ❀

December 15, 2017.
---------------------

Yesterday, we had 18 pups on board.

A mixture of puppies, adults, Pitties, a German Shepard, and Husky's, one of which you see here.

A last minute save from death row, the two Husky's were not in the original flight plan; a rescue reached out to me, quite literally at the 11th hour before our flight, and asked if we could take them.

Knowing I had room on the airplane, it was a no brainer - the one thing we will never ever do is turn away an animal if we have the space to take them.

Every time I load the aircraft, it's a delicate balance of placement, to ensure we load within limits, and keep the weight and balance where it needs to be during flight.

Early on I decided this girl would be co-pawlet; she had a very sweet and gentle demeanor, and weighed just enough to help offset our loading.

This is how she slept, for the entire flight; her little tooshy hanging off of the seat, but she didn't care. When you've just come from death row, I imagine that just about any sleeping arrangement would be more comfortable then what you had been through.

I would reach over and pet her, stroke her fur, and just remind her everything would be ok. It's a moment where you get to reflect on the fact that just 24 hours before, she and her crewmate would have been euthanized, simply because they were out of time.

Now, both on board our aircraft, headed to a new life over 500 miles away. Sometimes my friends, miracles really do happen ❀

Another memory as we celebrate 11 years. RIP Maximus, 2015-2023 πŸ’”

JUNE 7, 2015 is yet another memorable day for the books.

This day would be a few firsts for me - completing not just one, but two rescue flights; it would also be the first time a photographer would ride along with me.

We would start the day in Doylestown Pa, and head for Frederick, Maryland; there I would pick up a rescue pup to be taken to Brandywine Airport in Pa; after this drop off I would shoot across the Philadelphia Bravo, to meet my second rescue in NJ.

Imagine if you will, me trying to capture photos with my cell phone as we flew over Philadelphia at just 2500', while my co-pilot photographer commenced puking, not once, but 3 times from the turbulence; it was all I could do to move my phone around him to capture a few photos; it's quite humorous now, however at the time, I'm sure not so much for him.

The second leg of this journey would have us landing once again at South Jersey Regional Airport, where would meet another pilot to pick up a few pups to go to NY for rescue.

One of them would be Maximus, saved by Rescue Dogs Rock NYC who you see here. Maximus was used as a bait dog, and abandoned in a NC cemetery; passersby would find him curled up in the leaves, and left to die.

Upon bringing him to the local vet, it was determined he should be euthanized; that answer however, wasn't good enough. Rescue Dogs Rock NYC would pledge to take him, and we would help get him there.

This photo was captured as we unloaded in Caldwell, NJ; prior to this I had never seen abuse of this nature, and it left me completely stunned. Maximus would end up at the Faithful Friends Animal Hospital in NY, where his entire leg would need amputation from the infection.

The condition of Maximus had hit me pretty hard - so much so that I would take a half day off of work and drive to NYC after his surgery just to visit him. It was a wonderfully special day, where I got to spend a few hours with him.

For the longest time, he was all I could think about - he is one of the first transports that affected me so deeply.

Another memory, as we celebrate 11 years of animal rescue 😁

July 11, 2017.

LAYLA, looking out over her world as we flew north to rescue. This flight would have a total of 23 pawsengers on board; a carnival of cats, kittens, puppies and dogs, they would soon all know a new life. Where they were certain to meet an imminent end, they suddenly found a new beginning.

As with all things in animal rescue, you sometimes question yourself and your own sanity - and then, when you see this, and it's entire and pure innocence, you are reminded of why you continue to do it ❀

Another memory for our 11 year Anniversary.

September 12, 2016. Dolly, my co-pawlet, as I flew a rented Piper Arrow full of rescue animals from North Carolina, up to Westchester, NY.

"Do you think these dogs know they are getting rescued?"

I'd say the expression on her face answers that question. Why yes, I think they do πŸ™‚πŸ•

Keeping in tradition, I will be posting various memories as we celebrate 11 years of Flying Fur πŸ™‚

July 31st, 2015
-------------------------------------
Pictures are worth a thousand words, and this one definitely is for me. Left front we have miss Lucy, in process of falling asleep; our golden haired friend in the left rear is Smiley.

Smiley was found abandoned in a Walmart parking lot, left tied to a shopping cart before his rescue πŸ˜•

On the right side we have Bailey, resting on miss Merlin who is front and center πŸ™‚

There are sooo many thoughts and emotions that go through my mind looking at this...Smiley won't have to worry about being abandoned ever again...Merlin can sleep knowing it's not the last time she'll ever wake up.

All of them will know love, compassion, and caring as they head to new furever homes in 3 different states. All of them were saved from places where they had limited options. None of them should have to fear anything ever again. This is why I do what I do.

KEEPING in tradition of our Anniversary, we highlight memorable rescues from the past 11 years, starting with this one.

May 14th, 2015. Exactly one day after the official incorporation of Flying Fur Animal Rescue. I would fly to Tappahannock, VA, in a rented Piper Warrior, to bring back a load of dogs to Mount Holly, NJ, for Burlington County Animal Alliance of New Jersey.

Of many things I remember that day, none greater than this one; the feeling this pup gave me, as she sat on the wing, her soft fur glistening in the warm sunlight, her eyes closed, a gentle smile on her face.

It is moments like these that the entire world stops turning if for but a minute; the weight of everyday life is momentarily lifted, and the only thing you feel is peace and serenity.

A FEW of the pups we transported this week - through the amazing rescue efforts of Partners! Canines , these pups, coming from the mountains of North Carolina, would all live to see another day.

Thanks to the folks at Brandywine Valley SPCA, on Wednesday morning these pups would be met with the love and care to continue their journey in this world; one that ultimately will complete a family, make someone happy, and continue to show us as humans the true meaning of life.

Animal rescue truly takes a village; from fostering and time sensitive veterinary care coordination, a tremendous amount of planning and logistics goes into each transport.

In the 11 years I've been doing this, there is one thing that constantly remains clear; for every "human" that abandons, neglects, or abuses them, there are at least a dozen more proper humans that will give their time, blood, sweat, money and tears to try and save them.

Maybe one day, humanity will learn that the greatest riches and wealth on this planet simply come from how we treat each other, in the time that we are on this earth together.

11 YEARS AGO today, marks the 11th Anniversary of the incorporation of Flying Fur Animal Rescue, a 501c3 non-profit dedicated to helping the helpless. I am proud to say that in that time, you have helped us save just under 4,500 animals.

I started this as one man with a passion - a mission to help animals in need; ALL OF YOU have helped make this dream a reality.

It seems as if 2014 was just yesterday, when I became a certificated pilot, and since have donated over $130,000 of my own money, and thousands of hours of blood sweat and tears to help save animals, by air and ground - all because of the pup you see here, my own Miss Tessa, who came into my life in 2013. She, by all rights, is the true founder of Flying Fur.

Together, we have reached large milestones, and in other ways just begun - the challenges are continually laid out before me, and my duty is clear - to figure out how to conquer them, and steer this organization into its future.

Most importantly, NONE of this would have been possible without YOU, and for that I can never thank you enough.

I will continue to live my creed - no one gets out of here alive, and you can't take it with you. All that matters is what you do on this earth while you are here, and that you try to leave it a better place then when you entered it.

I did not choose this path my friends, it was chosen for me - I am simply doing what I believe I was called upon to do while on this earth.

For that, I will never, ever stop helping the abused, neglected, forgotten, and discarded; this is my pledge to you, and to them.

THE Pawty Truck is headed south once again - today, to North Wilkesboro, NC.

Tomorrow afternoon, I will be headed north with another 25 pups; that puts us over 100 animals transported to safety in just over the last month.

Thanks to the amazing efforts of Partners! Canines, those 25 pups now have another chance at life, and by tomorrow evening will be ready to be received by Brandywine Valley SPCA, in Georgetown, Delaware. From shelter to rescue, this is the full circle of animal rescue.

It truly takes a village, and we are always proud to play our small part, more details on these pups to come β€πŸ•
