"A Moment of Silence"
February 3, 2023 - 10:53 AM

We respectfully ask that you pause and stand at 10:53 AM on February 3, 2023, and observe a Moment of Silence. The time of explosion occurred 52 years ago at the Woodbine Thiokol Chemical Plant. A moment that claimed the lives of 29 of the 30 Georgia Citizens lives while manufacturing munition for our troops in Vietnam. In unison with us here in Camden County, this act of remembrance and gratitude, observing the moment during the 52nd Thiokol Commemoration Ceremony, is befitting of their service and sacrifice.

WE REMEMBER - FEBRUARY 3, 1971

We remember and honor our loved ones, neighbors, and friends that perished. We are grateful for the Thiokol Plant Workers' contribution to the nation and to all that risked their lives to save them.

In the moments of the worst time in our county's history, neighboring communities lined up by the thousands to donor blood, local people transported injured workers in their vehicles to the hospital, and families and neighbors cared for the injured worker's children.
