Adult children are often compulsive. Why? Are we now, perhaps decades later, still chasing the acceptance and approval we were never given? Do we find ourselves running this way and that, attempting impossible tasks, accepting unrealistic burdens? Why? Are we trying to reach back through the mist of the past to court what was never there? Isn't the prize we seek found only in the present?

We need to slow down enough to think before we act. Before we say yes, we need to look at what is being asked. We need to determine if it's what we want to do, if it's good for us to do, and if we have time. Just because something needs doing doesn't mean we have to do it or that it won't get done without us.

Much of our busy-ness doesn't make sense. Often we need to do less, not more.

I can simplify my life and lighten my burdens by deciding realistically what I want to do and what I have time to do.
