Every property the Citizens representatives saw was elevated above base flood elevation. They were able to see the difference in FEMA's legacy rates vs the new Risk Rating 2.0 rates. The legislature's requirement for all Citizens windstorm customers to carry matching flood coverage is another blow to Monroe County's affordable housing situation.

A NOAA researcher reached out to us yesterday to update a feature about the Home Education Elevation project that appears on the US Climate Resilience Tool Kit website. NOAA did a case study on the project for its Digital Coast website and you can see the link to that study on the Tool Kit website below.

FIRM has been working with Monroe County, the Florida Keys Contractors Association and others to identify contractors who will assist homeowners with completing the cost estimate portion of the application. The application deadline is November 2, 2022.

“Contractor assistance is vital to the success of this program to alleviate future flood risk,” explains Christine Hurley, Executive Director of the Monroe County Land Authority which oversees the program.
