What a nice post from the American Legion🇺🇸

It was a great honor and pleasure for American Legion Post 157 to host the DAR Liberty Tree Dedication Ceremony on Saturday, Oct 3rd in Bandera's Legion Hall, as weather had become a concern.

It was wonderful to see the incredible turn-out for this extremely meaningful event! And we'd like to recognize and offer a special word of praise for the Bandera HIgh School's Navy Junior ROTC Color Guard who did an amazing job despite challenges of the indoor venue!

While the scenery at the Legion Hall was not as lovely as the Bandera Courthouse Lawn, the crowd's sincere patriotism was not dimmed and the significance of the Liberty Tree tradition touched everyone there. This living tribute to the patriots who dedicated their lives to our nation's independence will stand forever as a powerful symbol of determination and courage.

📜 Kerr County Commissioners have officially proclaimed Sept. 17–23, 2026, as Constitution Week in Kerr County, Texas.

Constitution Week commemorates the signing of the U.S. Constitution on Sept. 17, 1787, and encourages Americans to learn more about the document and the principles of government it established. Congress established the annual observance in 1956.

❤️🤍💙 We extend a special thank you to the Major James Kerr Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution for proposing the proclamation signed by the 5-member commissioners' court, as well as the organization's continued promotion of American patriotism and the U.S. Constitution.

The DAR began advocating for Constitution Week in 1955, when it petitioned Congress to designate Sept. 17–23 as an annual observance.

đź“– Celebrating the foundation of our nation and the enduring principles of liberty, justice and equality for all.

CONSTITUTION WEEK

Mayor Joe Herring, Jr. has proclaimed Sept. 17–23, 2026, as United States Constitution Week in the City of Kerrville, recognizing the 239th anniversary of the signing of the U.S. Constitution.

The Constitution was signed on Sept. 17, 1787, in Philadelphia after months of debate and compromise by delegates to the Constitutional Convention. The document established a new framework for the federal government and, following ratification by the states, became the foundation of our nation’s system of government.

Constitution Week also has a special connection to the Daughters of the American Revolution. In 1955, DAR petitioned Congress to designate Sept. 17–23 as an annual observance. Congress approved the designation, and it was signed into law by President Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1956.

Members of the Major James Kerr Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution joined the mayor for the proclamation and shared some of the ways they are helping promote Constitution Week throughout the community.

The chapter is providing educational materials to fifth-grade classrooms in Hunt, Ingram, Comfort, Bandera and Kerrville, as well as hosting a Constitution Week luncheon with DAR chapters from Fredericksburg and Junction. The luncheon will feature speaker Michael Barr, who will discuss George Washington’s influence on the Constitutional Convention.

Thank you to the Major James Kerr Chapter for helping preserve this important history and educate the next generation about the Constitution and the principles of government it established.
