Cinnamon update:
You may remember her. The prolapse in the RGV who was hours from death (by bladder rupture) and had to have emergency surgery. A beautiful soul who feeds the strays saw her, advocated for her, and found someone who would do an emergency transport driving from 7pm to 1:30 am to get her here...then Aztec Vet saw her and operated on her...all on a holiday. And on top of all this, we discovered she was HW +.
Anyways, there is always the chance it's going to happen...that a rescue dog will undoubtedly choose you and in your heart you know they are supposed to stay.
However, you will also know dogs are super resilient and every one that stays takes a spot from one that still needs rescued.
We found Cinnamon a wonderful home. In fact, it is the same lovely people who adopted sweet Kilo (the old man Chihuahua mix we pulled from the Cove shelter). At Santa Paws, when a dog has been here a long time, we do multiple meetings so we can slowly transition the dogs. By the time they go to their new family, they know their family.
This time was not any different. Cinnamon had met her family multiple times at their home. One day they came to pick her up. When they got her home, she refused to get out of their car, she faced the back, and had actual tears in her eyes.
The sweet woman called me and confirmed what I knew but was trying to avoid. She said, "This dog belongs with you". I started crying. We knew she had chosen us...but so many rescue dogs do. They are so grateful. And yet, this time felt different.
Today, on Christmas day, we want to formally announce that sweet Cinnamon...aka Cinna-bun has been adopted. She is now part of the welcoming committee at Santa Paws. Welcome home Cinnamon ❤️.
