At Skeleton Crew Adventures, we are dedicated to providing a transformative healing experience for veterans and first responders living with Post Traumatic Stress (PTS). Our mission is to offer these individuals the opportunity to embark on a journey of healing at sea, utilizing research-driven methods rooted in adventure therapy (AT). Since 2016, our founder, Taylor Grieger, and team has led hundreds of sailing expeditions and provided in-person PTS seminars to over 3,000 active military and veterans. We currently operate out of Kemah, Texas, where we provide day-sail opportunities and overnight offshore sailing missions along the Texas coast.

Twenty-two seconds worth hearing.

Taylor on the part nobody talks about: you don't have to have been shot at. Years of living with your adrenaline running changes the brain, and most of the people it happens to have no idea it happened to them. He didn't think he had any reason to have PTS either.

Skeleton Crew Adventures exists for exactly these people.

Today is National Public Lands Day, and Skeleton Crew Adventures is one of the veteran organizations showing up outside for The Outdoor Muster.

The Outdoor Muster is a collective of groups that put veterans and military members outdoors for their mental and physical health, all doing the same thing on the same day, each in our own way. For us that means the Gulf, a boat and a crew.

Our veterans protected these lands and these waters. Getting them back out on them is our mission, today and every other day. If you're a veteran or first responder and you haven't been outside in a while, this is your sign.

One month to Lakewood Yacht Club Harvest Moon Regatta.

Lakewood Yacht Club asked Jay Medlin, USMC veteran, first responder, and our Director of Inshore Operations, why he sails it. His answer:

"Wind in the sails, moonlight reflecting on the Gulf, and good friends on deck. That's the freedom sailors have chased for centuries. It's why I love the Harvest Moon Regatta, though I'll enjoy the view even more with the competition behind us."

"As daylight gives way to the harvest moon, our crew of friends and fellow veterans works as one, chasing every knot, a trophy, and years of bragging rights."

That's the program. Encore leaves Galveston Bay on October 22 with an all-veteran crew. Thank you Lakewood Yacht Club for featuring Jay this week!

People ask us what adventure therapy actually means, so here's Taylor explaining it better than we ever have.

The clinical term is adventure therapy, but it isn't therapy in the way most people picture it. It's eight people on a boat who have lived through the same thing, a hundred miles from shore, relying on each other to stay alive. Somebody's back hurts on the rack. Somebody asks where you live, whether you go to a VA. That's the start, and then the door is open.

If you know a veteran or first responder who's been carrying it alone, this is what we do. Send them our way.

Most of our volunteers didn't start as sailors.

They started as veterans or first responders on one of our sails. Some of them tied their first bowline out here, then came back to help the next person do the same. That's how most of our crew ends up crewing.

If you've sailed with us before and want to come back as crew, we'd love to have you. New to sailing entirely and just want to help another way? That works too!

Wednesday night in Arlington, TX.

The National Medal of Honor Museum opened the Kearby Theater for a screening of HELL OR HIGH SEAS, then Taylor sat down with Mayor Jim Ross and Troy Bertram to talk about what actually happens after the uniform comes off.

Taylor on the program, in his own words: "It's not really therapy at all. It's just providing an environment for veterans to see and be a part of the world again."

Thank you to the Medal of Honor Museum, The Cordish Companies, and the City of Arlington, TX - City Hall for putting this together, and to everyone who stuck around at One Rangers Way for Cape Horn Tequila and a few sea stories.
