KSD Education Foundation The KSD Education Foundation (KSDEF) exists to enhance and support the educational experience of every KSD student.

We are a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization that partners with our community to enrich education in the Kearney School District—creating opportunities that inspire students, support teachers, and strengthen schools. We partner with the community to provide resources that empower teachers, fund innovative classroom projects, and expand opportunities for students beyond what traditional school budgets can provide. Through scholarships, classroom innovation grants, and community-driven programs, KSDEF helps ensure that every student has the tools and encouragement they need to learn, grow, and thrive. From early childhood through high school graduation, our work is focused on investing in the future of Kearney—one student at a time. We couldn’t do this without the generous support of our donors, business partners, and volunteers. Together, we’re building a stronger community by supporting education and opening doors for the next generation. Imagine being a kid and getting to say, “I built this.”

Through a KSDEF Educator Grant, students in music class are building and decorating their own ukuleles. They’re still a work in progress, but soon they’ll get to make music with instruments they created themselves.

A project becomes a skill. A skill becomes confidence. And a classroom experience becomes a memory.

That’s why Educator Grants matter. They give Kearney educators opportunities to make learning more engaging, hands-on, and memorable for their students!

What does KSDEF really do? We help make the extras possible.

The hands-on experience that makes learning come alive. The opportunity to get active, have fun, and build healthy habits. The scholarship that helps a student take the next step. The student who becomes an educator and comes back to serve future KSD students.

Through community support, KSDEF helps fund:

• Educational Excellence: grants that help KSD staff provide innovative resources, hands-on learning, career experiences, and other opportunities beyond the district’s regular educational budget.

• Wellness: opportunities that support the health and well-being of students, including programs like elementary pickleball.

• Future: scholarships for KSD students and Grow Your Own, which helps students pursue education degrees and creates a pathway for them to return and serve future KSD students.

These aren’t replacements for what the district provides. They’re additional opportunities made possible through community generosity.

Because sometimes an “extra” becomes the experience that sparks an interest, builds confidence, opens a door, or changes what a student imagines is possible.

We were happy to host executive directors from education foundations across Kansas and Missouri on Tuesday.

It was a great opportunity to sit around the table, share ideas, talk through challenges, and learn from one another. While each of our communities is a little different, the goal is the same: finding ways to invest in students and strengthen public education.

I’m grateful for the connections and conversations, and for the opportunity to bring what we learn back to Kearney and KSDEF.
