🚨 Keeping Our Children Safe in Public Schools

Parents, educators, and community—please hear me on this.

This school year, I want you to be watchful. Not paranoid, but aware.

We have got to stop thinking everyone is safe just because they look safe. The proof isn’t in the pudding; the proof is in the pattern. Patterns of behavior tell the real story—how people talk to children, how they test boundaries, how they try to isolate them, how they consistently show up in ways that raise your gut instincts.

Let’s commit to working SAFER, not just HARDER this year. That means:

✅ Paying attention to who spends time with our children.

✅ Asking the uncomfortable questions.

✅ Speaking up when something feels off—even if it’s awkward.

Our children deserve vigilance, not complacency. Their safety isn’t negotiable.

Dr. Nissi Hamilton, a child trafficking survivor and CEO and Founder of a nonprofit called Nissi’s Network, Inc., shares her own experience to highlight the problem of criminalizing victims of human trafficking. Criminal records often keep survivors from securing employment, education, and financial stability — even years after exiting trafficking. The Trafficking Survivors Relief Act would create the first federal pathway for survivors of labor and s*x trafficking to clear criminal records resulting from their trafficking experience, breaking down a massive barrier to survivors’ economic stability and mobility.
