Today is Ada Lovelace Day, a celebration of the 19th-century mathematician often called the world’s first computer programmer. Ada saw possibilities no one else had articulated — envisioning machines that could work with symbols, generate art and music, and move far beyond simple calculation. Her notes revealed a mind decades ahead of its time, making her one of history’s most influential STEM pioneers.

Photographer Mike Rigney told National Geographic this salmon migration was "easily one of the most beautiful natural displays I've ever seen."
