Autism Word of the Day: Scripting 🎬✨
If you’ve ever heard your child recite a favorite movie scene or a YouTube clip word-for-word, you’ve witnessed Scripting in action!

While it might seem like they are just "replaying" media, scripting is actually a powerful tool. For many autistic individuals, it serves as a way to communicate complex feelings, find comfort in familiar rhythms, or self-regulate during a busy day. It’s a bridge between their favorite stories and their real-world connections.

The Breakdown:
• What it is: The repetition of phrases or dialogues from media like movies, books, or TV shows.
• Why it happens: It is often a form of communication or self-regulation.
• The Connection: Sometimes called "delayed echolalia," it can happen right after hearing the words or much later.

Understanding scripting helps us see that every word has a purpose, even if it comes from a favorite character!

Ever wondered why some kids start communicating in full movie lines or favorite phrases instead of single words? That is Gestalt Language Processing (GLP)! 🗣️✨

For many autistic individuals, language isn't built one word at a time. Instead, they process language in "chunks" or whole phrases (often called scripts). Over time, they learn to break these big pieces down into smaller units to create their own original sentences.

Understanding GLP is a game-changer because it helps us see that scripting and echolalia aren't just "noise," they are a meaningful and valid way of developing communication. 🧠📖
