A bi-partisan conference committee will decide whether infrastructure funds earmarked for KCK can instead be used in rural Kansas.

Funding for the Central Ave Bridge is at risk due to a budget proviso added by a representative from SW Kansas. I am disappointed that he would take away funding for critical infrastructure that businesses and residents in our area need everyday to get to work, medical appointments, deliver goods and services - our everyday needs. As well as ignoring the potential economic benefit of re-opening the CAB!

This decision is now in the hands of the Budget Conference Committee. While I am hopefuly that the provisio will be removed, it is your voices, the voices of the businesses and residents impacted by the closure, that resulted in the announcement that the bridge would be rebuilt, only to have the rug pulled out from under us a few weeks later.

We are entering 4+ years of effort to rebuild the Central Avenue Bridge. We are so close and cannot give up! Please reach out to members of the Budget Conference Committee and the Governor to let them know how important rebuilding this bridge is to KCK and Kansas. Your voices have and will continue to make a difference.

While Gov. Kelly promised to fund repair for Central Avenue Bridge, it turns out that now state legislators from outside Wyandotte County are now trying to block the funding.

Whether we receive the funding is now in the hands of the Budget Conference Committee, which reconciles the budget bills from the state House and Senate.

We are so close! Sign our petition to let the committee members know that it's time to stop playing games with our bridge. We don't deserve to be treated as tools in the political games of Topeka. We deserve safe and reliable infrastructure.

We did it!

Today’s announcement of $135 million to replace the Central Avenue bridges is a huge win for our community. For years, residents, businesses, and neighborhood leaders have raised concerns about safety, connectivity, and the long-term impact of deteriorating infrastructure along Central Ave.

Replacing the bridge isn’t just about concrete and steel. It’s about safer travel, stronger economic connections, and honoring a corridor that has been essential to our county for generations.

Many thanks to everyone who pushed, organized, and stayed persistent to make this moment possible. This is what sustained community engagement and determined representation can deliver.
