casts posted here are verbatim from the National Weather Service or the Storm Prediction Center, and will not be modified or edited. Questions, comments, and discussion are welcomed and encouraged! Please note, however, we DO NOT provide point-specific forecasts upon request. You may obtain point-specific forecasts directly from the NWS, on their website, www.weather.gov , by entering your town, city, or zip code. This feature is accessible from your PC, Mac, Tablet, or Smart Phone, and is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. We thank each and every one of our subscribers for taking the time to "like", and follow Kansas City Regional Skywarn here on Facebook. We strive to be the the most informative and credible weather page for the entire 44 county forecast area and anyone having an interest in our regional weather. We are fully endorsed by the NWS, and maintain close working relationship with the NWS Forecast Office in Pleasant Hill, MO. All members of the Kansas City Regional Skywarn team are required to be Skywarn Spotter certified and licensed Amateur Radio (HAM) operators. Our amateur radio operators are always working as a group to provide the National Weather Service with reports of severe weather as it passes though the forecast area. Of the 5,000 amateur radio operators in the Kansas City metro area, many monitor the Metropolitan Emergency Radio System (154.130 Mhz), the National Weather Radio (KID-77 - 162.550Mhz), local emergency management frequencies, and local and commercial radio and television and amateur television stations. In the event of threatening weather, many amateur operators volunteer their time and training to SKYWARN®. SKYWARN® is a volunteer activity with no monetary compensation. All members have various levels, and types, of additional training, experience, certification, or coursework, including, but not limited to:
Meteorology, Earth/Atmospheric/Planetary Sciences, Fire Science/Firefighter/Fire instructor, First Responder/EMT, CERT, ECS, DART, RACES, ARES, Journalism/Broadcast Media, Computer/Information Systems Technology, Emergency/Red Cross Communications, Emergency Management Operations, Net Control for both VoIP Hurricane nets & Skywarn Weather Nets.
