Charlie's House

Charlie’s House has a community space for organizations to gather and meet, at no cost. If you need a space for your group to meet, we are happy to have you.

Charlie's House is a not-for-profit organization (501(c)(3)) dedicated to increasing awareness and educating parents and caregivers about common dangers that cause injuries and accidents to children in and around the home. Please call and schedule a day/time that work best for you.

Furniture safety is at the heart of what we do 💚

Charlie’s House was founded after 2-year-old Charlie Horn, right here in Kansas City, tragically lost his life when a dresser he attempted to climb tipped over onto him.

His story continues to inspire our mission to help families prevent furniture tip-over injuries and create safer homes for children.

It’s Fire Prevention Week, and we’re reminding you that safe charging is a superpower!

Lithium ion batteries are the overwhelming standard for rechargeable power in toys, computers, appliances, tools and devices. These batteries can catch fire. When they do, those fires grow quickly and are very hard to extinguish. The biggest danger is from overcharging.

Never leave a battery operated device on a charger, especially when you will be asleep or away. Always read and carefully follow the manufacturer’s instructions on charging and storing battery-powered items.

Safe charging habits can help reduce the risk of fires and keep homes and communities safer.

Plug in. Power up. Stay safe. 🔌

Disasters can happen when your family is apart, so take a few minutes to make a family emergency plan.

📱Know who to contact:
Choose an out-of-town contact and remember that texting may be easier than calling during an emergency.

📍Know where to meet:
Pick familiar, safe meeting places for your family, including options that accommodate pets or service animals.

📝 Practice your plan:
Make sure everyone has a copy of your emergency contacts and knows what to do. Review and update your plan as your family’s needs change.

A little preparation now can make a big difference when it matters most.
