Whim Productions creates challenging and evocative Queer theater in Kansas City, MO.

We’re dedicated to producing works written by LGBTQ+ writers with narratives that center queer characters. We strive to share the diversity of queer lives with Kansas City audiences and enable LGBTQ+ theater artists to tell their own stories. A main focus of our programming is the annual Alphabet Soup: Theater from Queer Voices LGBTQ+ short play showcase.

An evening of alphabetical absurdity! The 𝗔𝗱𝘂𝗹𝘁 𝗦𝗽𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗻' 𝗕𝗲𝗲 combines theater, LGBTQ+ culture, and a delightfully ridiculous vocabulary list into one unforgettable competition. Contestants will compete on stage for prizes and cash in a fast-paced, good-natured competition full of humor, suspense, and surprising words.

𝗠𝗲𝗲𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗧𝗲𝗮𝗺! Allyson Hayse-Tinker (she/her) (Props Designer) is thrilled to work on her first show at Whim! While she also works as an actor, some of her technical credits include: Choreographer for THE ADDAMS FAMILY-TYA (Pioneer Trail Middle School), Hair, Wigs, and Makeup for DOGFIGHT (OCTA), Hair, Wigs, and Makeup for THE MUSIC MAN (The White Theatre), and Props Designer for TWELFTH NIGHT (MNU). She is a member of Locally Grown Improv Company, and has worked as a Summer Camp and Studio Educator around the KC area. She graduated from MidAmerica Nazarene University in 2023 with a Bachelor’s of Arts in Theatre. She would like to thank her family, her friends, and Dalton.

𝗠𝗲𝗲𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗮𝘀𝘁! Ebonee Grace (she/they) (Dorothy) was born and raised in KCMO and earned her Bachelors in the Arts in Theatre from the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff. She has appeared in THE SEARCH FOR ANNO DOMINI MMXXI-I-VI (KCMPT), CHICKEN & BISCUITS (BRTKC), FAIRVIEW (KCMPT), SECRETS & LIES (KCMPT), PASS OVER (OCTA), and 2121 (KCMPT). When not performing, Ebonee works crew for shows, her last being the Stage Manager for PETE THE CAT (Cyclopedic Ensemble). 𝗠𝗲𝗲𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗧𝗲𝗮𝗺! Sandy Osborn (She/Her) (Costume Design) is so excited to be involved in her 4th show with Whim Productions! She made her Whim debut exactly a year ago playing Ex in KISSING IN THE GROCERY STORE. In 2025 she also acted in Whim’s 9th ALPHABET SOUP: THEATRE FROM Q***R VOICES and played the precocious 5th grader, Siobhan K., in Kevin King’s MY KID’S CHRISTMAS PROGRAM.
Sandy was thrilled to pivot to costume designing for Whim and has enjoyed every minute of working on 𝗟𝗜𝗣𝗦𝗧𝗜𝗖𝗞, from printing custom T-Shirt designs to modifying a wedding dress to curating over 10 different looks for one actor!

𝗠𝗲𝗲𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗧𝗲𝗮𝗺! Austin VanWinkle (he/him) (Lighting Designer) is a lighting designer currently living in St. Louis, MO. He completed his MFA in Lighting Design at UMKC in 2022. Since then he has lived many lives and has had some fun along the way. Recently he was back at Whim for the production of MY KID’S CHRISTMAS PROGRAM at the end of 2025. He is always excited to be working with all the great people at Whim and is grateful to continue to have that opportunity. When Austin isn’t designing or at work, you can find him curled up on the couch with his two cats, Gus and Cleo.

𝗠𝗲𝗲𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗧𝗲𝗮𝗺! Austin Cecil (he/him) (Scenic Designer & Builder) is a dynamic theatre artist who has been daring this land of drama-and-drag for nearly ten years now. Acting got him into this mess, and design is what’s keeping him fed, and this production marks Austin’s seventh with Whim!
He is a working theatre artisan and designer, and has been fortunate to work with some of Kansas City’s invaluable art-doers, including Spinning Tree Theatre (Design/Build, 2024–25), Shawnee Mission Theatre in the Park (Charge Artist, 2023), and the Black Repertory Theatre of Kansas City (Design/Build, 2022).
Rumor has it he was a two-time MSSHA Speech & Debate National Qualifier (2018), a KCACTF nominee (2023), and is now a proud alum of MCC–Longview, where he served as President of the Black Box Performers Studio and received said nomination (2022–23). Cecil is currently honored to be a BroadwayWorld Award nominee for Best Designer of a Professional Play/Musical.
