MHA is proud to offer post-secondary education scholarship opportunities to its members. A resident summer camp program is open

We’re sad to pass on the news of community member, Matthew Compton.

In Memory of Matthew Compton
1971–2026

It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of former HFA Board Chair and longtime bleeding disorders community advocate, Matthew Compton.

Matthew's journey with hemophilia began at an early age, and he lived with an inhibitor throughout his life. Despite the challenges he faced, he remained a steadfast advocate for the bleeding disorders community and dedicated countless hours to helping others.

A respected leader, Matthew served on the HFA Board of Directors and numerous executive committees before serving as Board Chair from 2012–2014. Under his leadership, HFA continued to grow and strengthen its support for individuals and families affected by bleeding disorders.

Matthew's commitment to advocacy began in childhood. At just 12 years old, he was selected to speak at the World Federation of Hemophilia World Congress in Stockholm, Sweden. Throughout his life, he remained a passionate voice for the community and an inspiration to many.

The HFA Board of Directors and staff extend our heartfelt condolences to Matthew's family, friends, and all who were touched by his leadership, kindness, and dedication.

His legacy will continue through the lives he impacted and the community he helped strengthen.

💙 Rest in peace, Matthew.

Information regarding memorial services will be shared when available.
