On Aug. 11–14, state insurance regulators gathered in Columbus, Ohio, for the 2026 , where they continued addressing the regulatory opportunities and challenges of the modern insurance marketplace.

As they advanced their work on issues including financial solvency oversight, market conduct, emerging technologies, health insurance affordability and availability, natural catastrophe risk, and more, NAIC Members engaged with state and federal officials, international insurance regulators, industry leaders, consumer representatives, and other interested parties.

Through the NAIC, state insurance regulators play an active role on the global stage, with the state-based system's hallmarks of collaboration and coordination driving their work with their global counterparts.

During Thursday afternoon's sessions at the 2026 , regulators discussed the latest on several international items, including the IAIS (International Association of Insurance Supervisors) recent activities and events promoting international cooperation and education.

As interest in cross-border reinsurance grows both in the U.S. and internationally, NAIC Members heard presentations on the topic from the NAIC and the Guernsey Financial Services Commission.

State insurance regulators also discussed their role in the International Monetary Fund's Financial Sector Assessment Program on the United States, which is now underway, and approved recommendations from the Aggregation Method Implementation (G) Working Group, with the recommendations moving on to the NAIC's Financial Condition (E) Committee for implementation.

NAIC Members also heard from FSD Africa's Elias Omondi, who discussed efforts in African countries to increase insurance coverage and financial literacy.

Now in its 18th year, the NAIC's State Officials Program brings together state insurance regulators, state legislators, and other state government officials for an in-depth conversation on insurance markets, the state-based system, and NAIC priorities.

Earlier today, NAIC officers held a session with the program participants that further explored some of the most pressing issues in today's marketplace, including affordability and accessibility in the homeowners and health insurance markets.
