The recent storm has left many in our community with questions about what comes next. If your home or business was affected and you have homeowners or commercial property insurance, I want to help connect you with information before you file a claim.

This Friday, I’ll be joining Senator Dinah Sykes, candidate for Kansas Insurance Commissioner, at the Quindaro Community Center for a community insurance assistance session.

🔔Storm Clean-Up Efforts Continue in Wyandotte County | Update

The UG would like to thank the hundreds of volunteers and community partners who answered the call today to assist residents impacted by this week’s storm. We are truly stronger together!

Mayor Christal Watson, the UG Board of Commissioners, and Wyandotte County residents are grateful to Kansas Governor Laura Kelly for today’s issuance of the disaster proclamation for Wyandotte County.

During this recovery phase, as of today, 4,900 Wyandotte County residents are still without power. Unified Government Leaders will continue to work diligently with various community agencies and state officials to ensure impacted residents receive the support and resources they need to safely and effectively rebuild.

After a full Saturday of cleanup and donation efforts, the UG and partners wanted to provide an update on available resources and next steps.

✅Volunteer Efforts for Sunday, August 23:
Please check out the WyCo resiliency resource hub for outlined volunteer details, locations, additional support, and opportunities to help an impacted neighbor in need. This site is updated in real time daily.

Individuals, faith-based organizations, neighborhood groups, businesses, nonprofits, and other community organizations are encouraged to participate.

Volunteers are asked to check in at the Village Initiative, 3004 N. 27th Street, KCK, from 10AM – 4PM for volunteer assignments and supplies.

We are calling on licensed electricians, electrical contractors, roofing professionals, and experienced tradespeople to join us tomorrow morning for a meeting and work as we work to make a major dent in the repairs still needed throughout Wyandotte County.

Teams have been assessing damage to electrical meters and identifying the parts and material needed so repairs can begin as quickly as possible. If you or your organization can assist, please contact Dominic Foreman with CJR Builders at 816-672-9480 for more information about the meeting location and support needed.

UG and Community Partners Seek Volunteers for Neighborhood Clean-Ups

The UG, in partnership with Justice for Wyandotte, the Village Initiative, the American Red Cross, and a host of other community agencies, is seeking volunteers willing to support storm response and recovery efforts in Wyandotte County.

✅If you or your organization, church group, or neighborhood would like to volunteer, we would greatly appreciate it. Individuals or groups of 15 or fewer available to help, are asked to join us at the Initiative Inc., 3004 N. 27th Street, KCK. Volunteer hours are from 9 AM–7 PM. Documented volunteer time may help our community meet FEMA disaster-recovery matching.

✅Skilled laborers and groups of 15 volunteers or more, please check in at the Volunteer Reception Center at the Kensington Community Center, 2900 State Avenue, KCK, from 8 AM - 4 PM on Saturday, August 22.

✅Unable to volunteer but would still like to help?

🚨 NORTHEAST KCK STORM RESPONSE — WE’RE HERE TO HELP! ❤️

The McNewton Outreach Center is serving as the main resiliency hub for Northeast KCK residents impacted by the storm.

We have food, supplies, and a cool place to relax. We are also distributing food and resources to all the community hubs that are now providing storm relief.

We’re also organizing volunteers to help our neighbors with storm cleanup, repairs, and recovery efforts over the next several days.
