Our Passport to Opportunity student showcase invited Community Breakfast guests to explore the experiences helping North Kansas City Schools students go far. Of course, every great journey deserves a photo!

What a morning for North Kansas City Schools! 📸

Thank you to the more than 500 guests who joined us October 22 for our 2026 Community Breakfast! From the Passport to Opportunity student showcase to the stories shared on stage, our students brought “Go Far. Start Here.” to life.

We celebrated summer adventures abroad, growing independence through Project SEARCH, and the difference one student can make through Claire’s Lemonade Stand. We heard from Dr. Rochel Daniels and members of her Superintendent's Student Advisory Council and proudly honored the Jedel Family Foundation with our 2026 Cornerstone Award.

To our Champions for Education, Community Breakfast sponsors, students, educators, families and volunteers: thank you for making this morning possible and supporting opportunities that last well beyond it.

“It really has opened up a lot of doors for all of us.” 💛

For Project SEARCH graduate Logan Eaton and his mother, Lisa, independence means having activities of his own and more flexibility for their family.

An Education Foundation grant helped students learn to use transportation services, opening up more possibilities for work and life beyond school. Today, graduates including Logan and Michael Gee put those skills into practice, including getting together each week at Gladstone Bowl. 🎳

Project SEARCH helps young adults with disabilities prepare for employment, and this story shows how that learning carries into everyday life.

We shared this video at our Community Breakfast, and now we’re sharing it with you. Thank you to our donors, educators, and community partners for helping create opportunities that last beyond graduation.

Tiffany left for a month away from home and returned feeling more prepared for college, new friendships and doing things on her own. 🌎

Her story is one example of what summer study opportunities can mean for North Kansas City Schools students. Through Student Diplomacy Corps, Normandy Academy and Reach Cambridge, students explore new cultures, experience history firsthand and discover possibilities for their futures.

At our Community Breakfast, we honored the Jedel Family Foundation with the 2026 Cornerstone Award for helping make opportunities like these possible.

Claire Sportsman turned a lemonade stand into $1,000 to help other students start school with the supplies they need. 🍋

The second grader welcomed customers, filled shopping carts with backpacks, notebooks and crayons, and helped deliver donations, including to Stuff the Bus.

We shared Claire’s story at our Community Breakfast this morning because it captures something we believe deeply: everyone can help students feel prepared, included and supported.

Thank you, Claire, and everyone who stopped by her stand or contributed to her efforts. Your kindness made a difference for students across our community.

An evening to learn from the pros! 🎻

Thank you to Margaret Cummings and the Cummings Family Fund for once again supporting the North Kansas City Schools district-wide Orchestra Summit through the Education Foundation.

On September 24, 42 student musicians gathered at North Kansas City High School to work with local professional musicians and practice their All-District Orchestra material.

We’re grateful to Jim Freise, our orchestra staff and clinicians James Albright, Shelley Armer and Daniel Ketter for sharing their time and talent. And to Margaret and the Cummings family: thank you for helping our students pursue their love of music!
