The path that leads to homelessness is often shaped by countless hardships - moments when a helping hand or safety net could have changed everything.

Today is , a day focused on adequate housing for all, and every bridge we can provide over life's "bumps in the road" makes a meaningful difference towards that end. Through our Long Term Housing program, we've been able to walk alongside countless families on the path towards stable housing.

This month and every month, we’re proud to celebrate our local Hispanic community.

"We are honored to walk alongside the families and individuals we serve by offering support, compassion, and a safe, welcoming place where clients can feel comfortable communicating in their native language,” shared Joselina Lara, Case Manager.

"We’re committed to assisting families during some of the most difficult moments of their lives while recognizing, respecting, and celebrating the unique cultures, backgrounds, and differences that make our community so special.”

“I feel privileged to be able to speak both English and Spanish,” shared Maria Perez, Receptionist.

“I’m able to help those that come here to the US not speaking English. Sometimes it's just needing someone to talk to, a place they can turn to, or help reading a letter they don't understand. And at the end of the day, they are the most grateful people."

"As a staff member at Bishop Sullivan Center,” said Joselina, “I am truly honored to serve and support our Hispanic community.”

Earlier this month, we were honored to welcome our partners from Strategic Workforce Development Inc, QPS Employment Group, Literacy KC, and T&T Property Management for our quarterly job fair at One City Café.

These fairs aim to bring opportunities for career advancement and continued education to the literal table for guests visiting One City for a free, healthy meal.

With more than 70 connections made between guests and potential employers, we’re grateful for every seed that was planted!

As Kansas City’s late-summer heatwave came to a close last week, we wrapped up our 27th summer of life-saving relief through Project ElderCool.

Your support this summer helped us:
- Provide & install 115 window AC units free of charge.
- Support 74 households with their electric bills to help keep AC running.
- Connect many seniors with additional support through community resources and other BSC programs.

In homes where neighbors often face medical complications, limited mobility, fixed income, and indoor temps north of 85 degrees, support like this can be life-saving.

“Project ElderCool gives us an opportunity to meet people where they are, address an immediate need, and help connect them with other resources that can improve their long-term safety, comfort, and quality of life,” shared Kayla McAbee, BSC Programs Assistant.

Thank you to every donor, volunteer, and community partner who made another summer of relief possible. 💙
