KC AVIATION STEM Is Taking Learning to New Heights

KC Aviation STEM uses ground-based aircraft for educational and experiential programs to inspire students in STEM fields of study, as well as to pursue aviation and aerospace related careers. Our mission is to provide future STEM leaders a real-world place to explore the world of flight, force and motion, weather, aviation careers, and achieve more than they thought possible through a wide-range of high energy and engaging activities. The TriStar Experience

The TriStar Experience was founded by Kerry Floyd and Mike Saxton. There was a shortage of Pilot/STEM programs within the field of aviation, and they wanted the TriStar Experience to fill that gap. The plane that started it all is now a STEM classroom where students can experience an immersive learning opportunity in which they will experience aerodynamic science and the thrill of flight.

We want to extend a heartfelt THANK YOU to Shoal Creek Elementary, all of the incredible volunteers, the amazing students, dedicated teachers, and the airport fire department for such a fantastic day of learning and exploration!

It was inspiring to see so many young minds engaged and excited about aviation—asking questions, climbing into cockpits, and experiencing hands-on activities that brought STEM to life. Days like this are what spark future pilots, engineers, and innovators.

3…2…1… LAUNCH! 🚀

The learning took off during the TriStar Experience Field Trip as students designed and built their own rockets—then put them to the test! Using air-powered launchers, they blasted their creations through a hoop, turning science into an exciting, hands-on challenge.

This activity brought STEM to life, combining engineering, problem-solving, and a little trial and error to see whose rocket could fly the truest. Every launch was a lesson in physics—and a whole lot of fun!

Future pilots in the making ✈️👨‍✈️👩‍✈️

Today’s TriStar Experience Field Trip was one to remember! Students got the incredible opportunity to climb into the cockpit, ask questions, and learn firsthand from a real pilot about what it takes to fly.

From exploring the controls to hearing stories from the skies, this hands-on experience sparked curiosity, inspired big dreams, and gave these kids a whole new perspective on aviation.

Who knows… we may have just met a few future aviators today! 🙌
