Sisters, Brothers and Siblings,
I hope this finds you well. I am sending this letter because of the escalating disrespect that some politicians in Jefferson City have shown towards our members and Missouri voters. Every election, voters must sort through all the noise looking for real answers, only to have their vote overturned months later. What has this done? It made us increasingly distrust our own government.
This isn’t the way things should be, and we have a chance to make it right.
The Missouri Labor Movement is circulating Respect MO Voters’ petition to return power to the people.
The Petition’s Goal
● Stop Right-to-Work. In 2018, Missouri workers used the petition process to get rid of anti-worker "Right-to-Work" laws. We want to ensure that the next time politicians try to hurt workers, we have the tools to stop them for good.
● Make Ballot Language Clear and Fair. Easy, common-sense issues should be easy to understand. Too often politicians try to mislead us by hiding the ball or complicating a problem. This petition requires ballot language to be fair, unbiased, and accurate. It's that simple.
● Preserve Tradition (Will of the People). Our nation was founded on a simple idea: a government for the people, by the people, and of the people. We, the voters, should have the ultimate say in what happens to our state. This petition does just that by requiring politicians to have an 80% majority to overturn what Missourians vote for.
How you participate in the political system is your choice, but I strongly encourage you to take the time to sign the Respect MO Voters petition to ensure that citizen-led ballot initiatives can’t be overturned by politicians who think they know better than us. The future of Missouri workers depends on our ability to have real power in our communities. Because this petition secures that power, it is essential that the Missouri labor movement gets it across the finish line.
