🌊📚 What a beautiful start to something special.

Tonight was our very first Little Readers Club at Georgie’s Closet, and our hearts are full. We packed the room with 12 little ones, books, snacks, crafts, laughter, and so many caring adults who showed up to pour into our children.

Community is the vibe. ❤️

A huge thank you to everyone who attended, volunteered, and helped make our first night a success. We can’t wait to see where this grows.

Join us every Tuesday from 6:00–7:00 PM for stories, activities, guest readers, and fun designed especially for children ages 5 and under.

📚☀️ Tomorrow is the big day! ☀️📚

*2 SPOTS ARE OPEN for 6/8/26*

We are so excited to welcome 12 amazing children to Georgie's Closet's very first Literacy & Snack Night!

Our summer kickoff will be filled with stories, smiles, and sweet treats as Ms. Ashley and our incredible team of volunteers read *Llama Llama Sand & Sun* and help the children create a fun "sand" pudding snack.

Each child will head home with:
🌊 Their very own copy of *Llama Llama Sand & Sun*
🏖️ A pail and shovel for summer adventures
🕶️ A pair of cool new sunglasses
💙 Memories of a special evening filled with learning, laughter, and love

And can we take a moment to appreciate our amazing new kitchen? What started as a landlord relationship has become so much more—we truly consider them family Gina Baumgartner & Adam. They surprised us with this beautiful space, making it possible to host events like Literacy & Snack Night and create a welcoming place where families, children, volunteers, and community members can gather, share stories, build relationships, and simply enjoy being together.

A heartfelt thank you to our volunteers and to everyone who continues to support the mission of Georgie's Closet. We can't wait to watch these young readers discover the joy of books while making new memories along the way.

GC Little Readers Club

Calling all local Kankakee foster kiddos ages 5 and under!

Join us every Tuesday night in June from 6:00–7:00 PM at Georgie’s Closet for a fun evening of stories, snacks, and creativity.

Each week includes:
A story read by a special guest reader
A simple craft or activity
Snacks and fellowship
A book for each child to take home and keep

Our goal is simple: to help foster a love of reading while creating a fun, welcoming space for children and caregivers to connect.

🚨 Wagon Needed for Foster Families 🚨

We’re putting out a community call!

If you have a WonderFold wagon or a similar multi-child wagon that you’re looking to sell (or donate), please reach out to Georgie’s Closet.

One thing people don’t always realize about foster care is that it often means caring for multiple young children at once, sometimes all very close in age. A good wagon can be a game changer for appointments, visits, parks, zoos, community events, and simply getting everyone from point A to point B safely.

We currently have several foster families who could really, really benefit from one.

These photos are proof that Georgie’s Closet was never built by one person.

It was built by a village.

Our first amazing volunteer appreciation dinner had me all in my feels.

The people in these photos have created something incredible for foster children and families not just in Kankakee County, but far beyond. Together we’ve built a safe place, a soft landing, a community, and a family.

Every folded shirt, every volunteer hour, every donation sorted, every child loved… it all matters.

I’m endlessly grateful for this team. Georgie’s Closet is changing lives because of you.

Meet the team behind Georgie’s Closet. 💚

These are the women who sort donations, fold laundry, organize chaos, greet families, hold babies, solve problems, and show up week after week because they believe kids in foster care matter.

They are the steady hands and kind hearts that keep this mission moving forward.

So if it’s been a while, consider this your reintroduction to the incredible core team of Georgie’s Closet. I’m grateful every day to do this work alongside them.

We’re always looking for new volunteers- especially with our exciting summer schedule and activities. A new sign up will be posted soon with more information on how to get involved!

Today we had the absolute BEST group of volunteers from Brazil serving at Georgie’s Closet while staying at Olivet Nazarene University for Olivet Camps 2026. 🇧🇷🇺🇸

Bre and I had a project list ready for them… and they knocked out even MORE than we planned. 😂 Seriously one of the hardest working, kindest, most fun groups.

My Portuguese is still absolutely terrible, but thankfully they had my back all day. 🤝

So grateful for these students, their leaders, and the way they jumped in with joy, humility, and servant hearts. The foster care community in Kankakee was blessed by you today whether you realize it or not. ❤️

✨ Men’s athletic shoes size 10+
✨ Baby monitors & toddler activity tables
✨ Non-expired car seats in good condition

Every donation helps us continue providing free essentials to children in foster care right here in our community.
