As an adult, do you ever feel like it's harder to get involved in sports activities compared to when you were a kid and had school sports and club sports? The structure of what sports are available to adults changes, but our need for physical movement and the benefits of social connection through sports and wellness activities do not! Luckily, we live in a community where so many community members have organized activities that they enjoy so that others can come together to participate. Over the next few weeks, Healthy Kane County is aiming to bring attention to these opportunities with a Lifelong Sports & Wellness Sampler Challenge. Pick up a paper at the Kanab City Library or the Active Living Centers (or print your own from our website (https://www.healthykanecounty.org/lifelong-sports-wellness-sampler-challenge) and hit the sports and wellness circuit of our communities! Come June, you can submit a photo of your paper showing what activities you completed and will be entered in a drawing for a variety of health-promoting prizes--each activity you do counts as an entry! At the end of the month, you can submit photos of your paper at bit.ly/HKCFsampler, email the photos to [email protected], or text them to 435-267-2706.
This challenge is also meant to raise awareness about a resource we have created on our website. At www.healthykanecounty.org/events you will find an embedded Google Calendar that shows the various health and wellness events available in our communities. (The first calendar is Healthy Kane County hosted activities, the second calendar is other health- and wellness-related community activities. If you have a health and wellness activity you host or know about and would like to get it on that calendar, email [email protected].)
Although this challenge is aiming to bring more attention to community activities that create sports and wellness opportunities for adults who don't have access to organized sports in the way youth do, people of any age are welcome to participate in the challenge. (Note that some activities on the list do have an age range, but many are open to anyone.)
