Short notice, and then I'll be quiet until it's real.

Early next week I expect to have a recall petition in hand and submitted to the Flathead County Election Administrator regarding Mayor Ryan Hunter.

One issue. In April, he cast the deciding vote in a 5–4 decision adopting the Kalispell land use plan while employed by the Flathead Land Trust — an organization with a direct interest in city land use. He disclosed the employment. The city attorney raised a conflict. Residents and councilors asked him to step aside. He voted anyway.

That is the entire case. Nothing else is in this petition.

Here's what I need from you right now: nothing. Don't share a form, don't sign anything, don't believe anyone who hands you a sheet this week. The petition has to be approved before a single signature counts, and I'm not going to waste your name on paper that gets thrown out.

What I am asking is that you be ready. When it's approved, this moves fast and it moves on foot — real people, real doors, real signatures, on a clock. If you'd be willing to carry a clipboard for a few hours a week, start thinking now about which hours those are.

A pattern is emerging with Mayor Hunter.

The Community Action Partnership of Northwest Montana recently unveiled its new RV Park in South Kalispell, but it still needs a conditional use permit to operate, say city planning staff.

WE NEED A NOTARY.

Montana law requires every recall petition sheet to be sworn and notarized before it counts. That means we need a volunteer with an active Montana notary commission — about an hour, one evening a week, right here in Kalispell.

You bring your stamp and journal. We handle everything else. A second notary as backup would be welcome too.

Last night was a success.

The weather turned cool and a little rainy, but we walked downtown anyway and spent the evening with Kalispell voters — handing out flyers and talking through how the recall works and how folks can get involved. About 20 neighbors stopped to talk with us.

Those conversations are exactly what this effort is about: people taking the time to understand the process and asking how they can help hold City Hall accountable. Thank you to everyone who stopped despite the rain, and to the volunteers who came out and stuck with it.

This is how it moves forward — one conversation at a time.
