Flathead Valley Exchange Club

Flathead Valley Exchange Club Flathead Valley Exchange Club is a service club dedicated to veteran/military, youth & community non-profits.

We are a non-profit service organization dedicated to making a positive impact on the Flathead Valley community. Through various programs and initiatives, the club focuses on three core areas: Americanism, Youth and Community Service. Additionally, the Prevention of Child Abuse is one of the pillars of our National organization. In terms of Americanism, the club promotes pride in our country and h

onors those who have served through initiatives such as recognizing local veterans, supporting active military personnel, and organizing patriotic events. We strive to instill a sense of patriotism and appreciation for the sacrifices made by our servicemen and women. The Flathead Valley Exchange Club also places a strong emphasis on youth development. We fund-raise for youth related programs and volunteer our time to help as well. We believe in investing in the next generation and empowering them to become responsible and engaged citizens. Lastly, the club actively engages in community service projects that address critical needs in our area. From organizing fundraisers for local charities to volunteering at homeless shelters, the Flathead Valley Exchange Club works tirelessly to improve the lives of those less fortunate and create a stronger, more compassionate community for all. We organized a successful fundraiser in 2022 and 2023 called the Field of Honor®, held at Glacier High School. That raised money for local veterans organizations. We have also held multiple Glow Run 5K, which focused on youth non-profits. The Flathead Valley Exchange Club offers an excellent opportunity to get involved and make a difference in our community. Whether you are passionate about supporting veterans, investing in the future of our youth, or participating in impactful community service initiatives, this organization provides a platform for individuals to contribute their time, skills, and resources. We would love to have you join us at a meeting, or give any of us a call for more information!

I need your help. A crisis is heading our way if we don't address this now, the ones who will pay the price are the veterans and families who need us most. Service dogs save lives!

The Wounded Warrior Service Dog Program (WWSDP) has supported organizations across the United States since 2015, helping get highly trained service dogs into the hands of veterans who need them most. These dogs reduce su***de risk, support daily living, and help veterans rebuild a new normal, especially in rural and frontier rural communities. In 2021, Congress formally established WWSDP as a DoD program of record under Pub. L. No. 116-283, § 745 (2021).

Today, DoD Wounded Warrior Service Dog Program Award Recipients are sounding the alarm because the future of this federally recognized program is at risk.

Without fixing FY25 and securing FY26, WWSDP will run out of funding in 2025.

This would leave 28 organizations in 23 states, and the veterans they serve in all 50 states, without the support Congress intended when it created this program.

This is not hypothetical. It is already unfolding.

What happened in FY25 (the crisis we’re already in):
• FY25 passed with no dedicated line item for WWSDP.
• There is zero new FY25 funding, despite WWSDP being a DoD responsibility under federal law.
• All providers are operating only on leftover FY24 funds, which expire Dec 31, 2025.
• This creates a funding cliff that will force:
– Veteran waitlist freezes
– Halting of new placements
– Staff reductions and regional cutbacks
– Direct cuts to lifesaving services
Veterans in all 50 states will feel the impact.

Why FY25 must be fixed NOW:
• Even if FY26 funding passes, funds won’t flow for 9–12 months after enactment.
• Without FY25 dollars, organizations face a full-year funding gap many cannot survive.
• FY25 can only be fixed through:
– A reprogramming action, or
– A supplemental appropriations bill
(Both must align with Defense Health Program / Consolidated Health Support.)

What happened in FY26 (the next fight):
• The House included $17M for WWSDP.
• The Senate included nothing.
• Funding is not secured until both chambers agree in conference.

What Congress must do:
• Fix FY25 immediately.
• Adopt the House’s $17M for FY26.
• Reaffirm WWSDP as a DoD program of record under PL 116-283.
• Ensure continuous support for the wounded warriors this program was created to serve.

Because at some point we must ask:
If we allow this program to fail, do we really support our veterans — or only when it's convenient?

We had the honor of hosting Dog Tag Buddies, a nonprofit that pairs veterans with highly trained service dogs. Their program supports veterans living with PTS and mobility challenges, helping them rebuild confidence, manage anxiety, and navigate daily life with a steady “battle buddy” by their side.

These dogs aren’t just companions. They’re trained to interrupt anxiety attacks, wake handlers from nightmares, detect cortisol spikes, and assist with mobility needs. Dog Tag Buddies covers the full cost of each dog which includes training, vet care, food, and lifelong support. With funding cuts this past year, they rely heavily on community donations to keep the program going.

How You Can Help:
• Donate: The organization relies on donations to continue its work.
• Amazon Wish List: An Amazon wish list is available on their website for specific needs.
• Spread Awareness: Share information about Dog Tag Buddies and the vital role service dogs play in veterans’ lives.
• Contact: Visit DogTagBuddies.org for more information, to donate, or to fill out an application if you know a veteran in need.
