Remembering those who gave their all.

This Memorial Day, honor our fallen heroes by checking in on those who are still with us. For veterans navigating invisible wounds like PTSD and depression, holidays can intensify isolation and grief. Supporting their mental health is our ongoing duty.

Mental health includes emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It affects how we think, feel, act, make choices, and relate to others.

Today, May 5, 2026, is National "Silence the Shame" Day. Mental health is health.

National Day is May 5. Started by an Atlanta music executive, Silence the Shame is dedicated to eliminating mental health stigma, reducing health disparities, and improving rates of su***de among vulnerable populations.

Silence the Shame aims to normalize the conversation, peel back layers of shame, and promote mental wellness for vulnerable and disparate population groups, including:

🔕 Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC)
🔕 Le***an, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Q***r or Questioning (LGBTQ+)
🔕 Individuals in high-stress jobs
🔕 Older adults
🔕 Rural communities

At ISK, we're committed to supporting efforts to and — and to silence the shame that can prevent vulnerable people from seeking help. Watch our page for more.

Having family voice included in all levels is important. Policies created without family input risk missing the mark. Policies created with families lead to stronger systems, better outcomes, and lasting impact.

What a great way to celebrate Day 2 of Children's Mental Health Action Week! Our very own Dr. Lynda Gargan will be speaking at the briefing.

If you, your child or a loved one have had the lived experience of a congregate care stay, we want to know what your experience was – positive or negative. Please take a few minutes to complete our Congregate Care Survey to help provide family voices of lived experience at the briefing.
