Six years ago I was working on my horsemanship way more than I am as a nonprofit leader. I have fun playing nonprofit too, but it's not as much fun to film, lol

Today my student, Mya, learned to braid for the first time. This video is her third braid ever. Her mom always braided her hair for her and she hadnt learned, so she learned on Jane today. Being a nonprofit founder and horsemanship instructor, I live for these new experiences.

Earlier this summer Kennedy Sall at Renew Therapeutic Riding Stable, and Aubry Borema, of Hestovin Stables, helped me find my way into a new experience when preparing to host a DSAWM group experience with our horses for the first time. Today I pass the braid to each of them to connect us in introducing experiential education to our local communities and supporting each other in professional growth.

Susan creates a soulful, healing vibration to take home and share with your friends.

October marks the return of my Third Sunday Sound Journeys. Join me as I host a small group of like minded women looking to rest and renew as we continue into autumn. Beginning at 4 pm EST, you will enjoy an hour of the soothing sounds and vibrations of instruments I tailor specifically for each session. For more information and to register, visit https://www.susanmayerllc.com/peregrinesoundtherapy. Make sure to hold your spot as our group is intentionally small.

When I agreed to bring Jane on as a visiting scholar for the summer, my thought was that she would teach Secret how to be a mare. I have only geldings here. It's been a quiet journey for them because Secret is pretty agreeable. The biggest difference is see between the geldings and Jane is that Jane sets boundaries on Secret around food and water. The geldings let her boss them around and pretty much she eats and drinks at her whim.

Here we see Jane saying no. Not viciously, just very clearly.

There is a theory that some horse people believe is true while others dispute. I believe it is true for herds allowed to choose their forage rather than only have access to what humans choose for them. The theory is that horses will self-medicate by choosing to eat herbs their bodies need to be well.

Santana stopped 3 times during this ride to eat sassafras leaves. I allowed it.

Do you believe horses self medicate? Do you believe other animals do?
