What an incredible two days for Junction City and Geary County! On May 27–28, community members, business owners, organizations, elected officials, and partners filled the City Municipal Building for the EPA Recreation Economy for Rural Communities (RERC) Workshop, resulting in the largest turnout in the history of the program.
This was supported through a collaborative effort between five federal agencies and the Flint Hills Regional Council, who helped write the application. The workshop brought national expertise together with local vision and passion to help shape the future of our community.
From creative ideas and bold conversations to passionate discussions about recreation, tourism, downtown development, and quality of life, the energy in the room was unmatched. This workshop showcased the heart of Junction City: people who care deeply and are willing to put in the effort to move our community forward.
A huge thank you to every volunteer, attendee, presenter, and partner who helped make this possible, along with our generous sponsors who invested in this experience and our future. Your support helped create a welcoming space for collaboration, innovation, and community-driven visioning.
The momentum coming out of this workshop is only the beginning.
Thank you to all our supporters for making this possible!
