Except this isnโt based on somebodyโs opinion. The Texas Tribune and ProPublica compared Ken Paxtonโs federal financial disclosures with property records, rental listings, mortgage documents and interviews.
Hereโs what they found:
โข Paxton reported owning seven homes while claiming he received essentially ๐ป๐ผ ๐ฟ๐ฒ๐ป๐๐ฎ๐น ๐ถ๐ป๐ฐ๐ผ๐บ๐ฒ from them โ yet six were advertised for rent, and tenants or neighbors confirmed rentals at some properties.
โข He apparently failed to disclose about ๐ฆ๐ญ.๐ฏ ๐บ๐ถ๐น๐น๐ถ๐ผ๐ป ๐ถ๐ป ๐บ๐ผ๐ฟ๐๐ด๐ฎ๐ด๐ฒ๐ on three Utah resort condos.
โข A Texas property interest he valued at no more than ๐ฆ๐ฑ๐ฌ,๐ฌ๐ฌ๐ฌ last year was reportedly worth around ๐ฆ๐ญ ๐บ๐ถ๐น๐น๐ถ๐ผ๐ป โ according to his own business partner.
Three ethics experts told the news organizations that failing to report rental income would violate federal disclosure law, and other apparent omissions could also violate federal ethics requirements.
Paxton declined an interview. His campaign dismissed the findings as โpartisan allegations.โ
