I support responsible economic development, but I oppose locating data centers within Johnson City's city limits.

There are simply too many unanswered questions about the potential impact on our neighborhoods, water supply, power grid, utilities, infrastructure, environment, and quality of life.

Before any community would possibly move forward with any development of this kind, we must have clear answers, strong accountability measures, and meaningful input from the people who call Johnson City home.

Progress should be measured by how well it serves our citizens, not by how quickly we embrace new development.

The question is simple: If the people of Johnson City do not want these facilities in their community, why would we move forward without listening to them?

Our residents deserve a voice in decisions that could affect their homes, neighborhoods, and future generations.

I believe in growth, but it must be responsible growth that puts PEOPLE FIRST.

“Leadership is not about the title or position you hold. It is about the difference you make in the lives of others.”

Throughout my nearly two decades of serving Johnson City, I have been blessed to serve in many different capacities, including as a pastor, nonprofit leader, business owner, City Commissioner, and Vice Mayor.

But one thing I have learned is that titles come and go. The difference we make in people's lives is what truly matters.

Whether helping families avoid homelessness, providing essential resources to those in need, supporting our neighborhoods, serving our children and youth or bringing community partners together to solve problems, my satisfaction has always come from seeing lives changed for the better.

Leadership means being present, listening to people, doing your best to understand their struggles, and doing the work necessary to make a difference.

As I seek to serve Johnson City as your Commissioner, my commitment remains the same: Put God first, keep people at the center, and lead with integrity, compassion, and accountability.

Because at the end of the day, leadership should never be measured by the position you hold, but by the people you serve and the difference you make.

I believe in keeping Johnson City safe, supporting our law enforcement officers, and protecting the constitutional rights of our citizens.

And public safety should never come at the expense of personal privacy and freedom.

That is why I oppose the use of the Flock camera system in Johnson City.

STOP THE FLOCK!

We must ask serious questions about privacy, government surveillance, accountability, and how our tax dollars are being spent.

We can support public safety without compromising personal freedoms.

I believe decisions like these should reflect the concerns and voices of the people we serve.

Leadership is about more than making promises. It’s about listening to people, making responsible decisions, and delivering results.

My experience taught me to understand the importance of protecting our tax dollars, prioritizing essential services, and making Johnson City more affordable for the families who call it home.

We need leadership that puts PEOPLE FIRST!

Sunday Reflections | Courage

Courage does not mean we never experience fear. Sometimes courage is simply choosing to do what is right even when it is difficult.

In today’s Sunday Reflections, I’m sharing a reminder that our convictions should be stronger than our fears.

Whether it means speaking up, admitting when we are wrong, helping someone in need, or taking a step of faith, God calls us to move forward with courage.

“Be strong and of good courage… for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9

This week, ask yourself:
What is one thing I know is right, but I have not had the courage to do?

Here is an important voting reminder. After you have reviewed your selections on the voting machine, make sure you press the red “CAST VOTE” button once to complete the voting process.

Do not walk away until you have followed the final instructions on the machine and confirmed that your ballot has been cast.

If you have any questions while voting, ask a poll worker for assistance. Poll workers are trained to help explain how to use the voting equipment and cast your ballot.

Tonight was a tough one, but I am still proud of our Science Hill Hilltoppers! In temperatures in the 50s and plenty of rain, these young men took the field against a very talented Maryville team and fought until the end.

FINAL: Maryville 42 | Science Hill 7

This was the Toppers’ first loss of the season, but one game does not take away from the hard work, discipline, preparation, and success these young men have shown all year.

Sometimes football, just like life, is about how you respond when things do not go your way.

Keep your heads up, Toppers. Learn from it, get back to work, and keep moving forward. There is still a lot of football left to play.

Thank you to the coaches, players, band, cheerleaders, families, students, and all of the Topper faithful who stood out in the cold rain supporting our team tonight.

Over the years, I have learned that what makes Johnson City truly special is not simply where we are located. It is the people.

I came to ETSU, met my beautiful wife, built a life here, and have had the opportunity to experience firsthand the character and culture of this community.

Johnson City is filled with good people who care about one another, and it remains one of the friendliest places I know.

Johnson City Spotlight | T.R. Dunn

For this week’s Johnson City Spotlight, I’m honored to recognize T.R. Dunn, a Johnson City native and Science Hill Topper Hall of Famer and truly a man of many gifts and talents whose life reflects faith, family, creativity, leadership, and service.

Long before many people knew T.R. from behind a camera or microphone, he was a Science Hill High School basketball standout and slam dunk contest winner. Today, he continues supporting Topper athletics as an announcer for Science Hill sporting events.

T.R. and his wife, Carla, are deeply invested in Johnson City and have built a beautiful life of faith and service together. They are the proud parents of four children and several grandchildren.

Together, T.R. and Carla are the cofounders and directors of 4ThirTEEN, a faith based nonprofit committed to mentoring, encouraging, and creating opportunities for young people.

T.R. is also the owner of T.R. Dunn Photography, a minister of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, worship leader, and vocalist who is often called upon to sing the National Anthem at community events. He and Carla also use their experiences to encourage stronger marriages and families through conferences and workshops.

Each week, T.R. hosts Life in Focus, where he leads conversations about life, faith, relationships, family, and community across multiple media platforms.

Whether he is behind a camera, behind a microphone, mentoring young people, encouraging marriages and families, leading worship, or supporting the Toppers, T.R. continues using his many gifts and talents to pour into others.

T.R., thank you for your commitment to faith, family, young people, and the Johnson City community. Keep using your gifts to make a difference!

For nearly two decades, I’ve had the privilege of serving Johnson City through faith, nonprofit leadership, business, and government.

These experiences have taught me that true leadership begins with listening, understanding, and serving people.

I’m running for Johnson City Commission because I believe in the importance of:

PROVIDING trusted, experienced, and accountable leadership that listens to the people, leads with integrity, and puts the needs of our community first.

PROTECTING our residents, neighborhoods, and taxpayer dollars by prioritizing public safety, affordability, responsible spending, and the services our citizens depend on.

PREPARING our future generations through responsible growth, stronger infrastructure, economic opportunities, and thoughtful planning that preserves our quality of life.
I believe God has called me to serve this city with wisdom, experience, accountability, integrity, and a servant’s heart.
