Our bad ass NJHRC team took time for a photo (thanks for posing us, Sheilah!) at the third annual New Jersey Harm Reduction Conference!

As we were reminded by CAI's opening speaker: The opposite of harm reduction is abandonment. Harm reduction chooses dignity. It chooses evidence. It chooses care without conditions. It chooses people.

🧡 Fentanyl, Public Health, and Public Policy — Overdose Prevention 🧡
Fentanyl is one of the causes behind the overdose crisis but public policy that doesn’t correct the harm of bad policy is also a factor in the overdose crisis. Ending the overdose crisis is going to require public policy that actually addresses harm and seeks to repair.

🧡 Ending Overdose is possible 🧡
Reaching people who have been harmed by traditional systems still need support and care is essential to reducing overdose rates. That is where harm reduction advocates come in. These harm reduction advocates see firsthand how people seek help, don’t get it, and feel like they have no where else to go. Thankfully harm reduction advocates in New Jersey have created system of care and support for people who have been made to feel they aren’t worthy of care.

🧡 Ending overdose takes everyone 🧡
Everyone - EVERYONE needs to know about harm reduction tools that are available and can help save a life. The overdose crisis impact 1 in 2 people living in the United States. In New Jersey, we have been working hard to ensure that things like naloxone, wound care, sterile tools, and testing strips.

ICYMI: Last week, leaders from New Jersey's 30+ Harm Reduction Centers (HRCs) came together to celebrate, strategize, & get ready for a new budget season. New Jersey's state budget process & politics are complex by design ... but when we grow together, when we fight together, we win together! 🔥🧡

And "winning" is not abstract ... this is making sure that lifesaving supplies & supports are at the center of our state's drug policies -- not punishment or discrimination. We've come a long way & we have a long way to go!
