We continue to speak up for Ukraine, its people, and its future. Ukrainian Jersey City once again advocated alongside the New Jersey delegation on Capitol Hill during the 9th Ukraine Action Summit, organized by the American Coalition for Ukraine. πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡¦
We advocated for sanctions on Russia and Iran, the return of Ukrainian children, and stronger defense partnerships. The Graham sanctions bill passed the House on September 16 and became law September 18.
But passing a law is not enough. On October 16, President Trump waived major new sanctions under that law, following his announcement of a deal allowing Russian diesel into U.S. and global markets (executive order; BBC).
We believe easing pressure on Moscow is a dangerous setback for Ukraine. It also undermines a consistent response to Iran: Russia paid Iran for Shahed drone technology and expanded production of those drones for its war against Ukraine. Our meetings included the offices of:
Norcross (NJ-01), Van Drew (NJ-02), Conaway (NJ-03), Smith (NJ-04), Gottheimer (NJ-05), Pallone (NJ-06), Kean (NJ-07), Menendez (NJ-08), Pou (NJ-09), McIver (NJ-10), Mejia (NJ-11), Watson Coleman (NJ-12), and Senators Cory Booker and Andy Kim, representing New Jersey statewide.

Yesterday, we had the honor of joining those who raised the Ukrainian flag over Jersey City City Hall in celebration of Ukraine’s Independence Day. πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡¦

A heartfelt thank you to the City of Jersey City Jersey City , Mayor James Solomon, Tom Zuppa Eleana Little and Ukrainian National Home of Jersey City for keeping this beautiful tradition alive for so many years.

Yes, Ukraine’s official Independence Day was yesterday - but we believe Ukrainians deserve to celebrate our independence every day. Because we are fighting for it with every breath, every day.

For those of us who live far from home, this day carries a different kind of weight. Because we know what it means to miss Ukraine.
To celebrate from thousands of miles away.
To raise our children here, while teaching them the words, songs, traditions, and stories that came from there.
To build a life somewhere else - and still feel that something inside us has never moved.

Because Ukraine is not only a place.

Ukraine is in the language we speak at home.
In the embroidery we wear.
In the songs that make our hearts ache.
In the food we cook from memory.
In the traditions we refuse to let disappear.
In the way we gather, help one another, and keep showing up.

Ukraine is in our children - even those born far from its borders
And perhaps this is one of the most beautiful meanings of independence for Ukrainians abroad:
You can take a Ukrainian out of Ukraine, but you cannot take Ukraine out of a Ukrainian.

We carry her with us.
In every city we call home.
In every Ukrainian word spoken across the ocean.
In every child who learns where their family comes from.
In every embroidered shirt worn proudly on American streets.
In every act of kindness, every gathering, every flag raised, every story told.

We are thousands of miles away - but we are not disconnected.

Ukraine is inside us.

Our 6th Annual Ukrainian Jersey City Vyshyvanka 5K Run/Walk brought together nearly 200 people - and this year, for the very first time, we had a Kids Run! πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸƒβ€β™‚οΈπŸ’›

This is so much more than a run. It’s our community coming together, showing up for Ukraine, supporting one another, and turning every step into something meaningful.
