Love is not a finish line. We've heard from adult adoptees that old saying, "love conquers all," however well-intentioned...can quietly dismiss the very real questions they carry: about identity, health history, culture, and belonging. Being told to simply be grateful can make those questions feel forbidden.

But love and curiosity aren't opposites. There must be room for both. Today, we honor that. We honor adoptees who hold love and longing. Families learning to make space for their child's whole story. The questions that deserve to be asked out loud. Alabama Pre/Post Adoption Connections (APAC) offers free, trauma-informed training and counseling for adoptive families of children with experience in Alabama's foster care. Belonging takes more than love. It takes support.

Join us TOMORROW. This conversation will change how you interact with a child experiencing crisis, so you can offer the best support possible.
Self-harm among youth is rising at alarming rates; and many caregivers, educators, and professionals are left asking the same question:
“What do I do if a child I love or care for is hurting themselves?”

We’re going LIVE with nationally recognized trainer Sue Badeau this THURSDAY, for a powerful, trauma-informed webinar focused on understanding and responding to self-harm in children and teens.

You’ll learn:
- Why children engage in self-harming behaviors
- How trauma impacts emotional regulation
- The difference between self-harm and su***de risk
- What to say (and what NOT to say)
- Practical strategies you can use immediately

Here’s why this matters RIGHT NOW:
• About 1 in 5 adolescents report engaging in self-injury
• Youth self-harm rates continue to rise nationwide
• Many young people are navigating trauma, anxiety, grief, and emotional pain without the support they need

Awareness and early intervention can make a difference. We can be the change our children need.

You already know there’s beauty in everyday moments. Here’s what unfolded on a sunny day in May…

Our Birmingham APAC adoptive families showed up last weekend for one of our most beloved traditions; Pictures in the Park! The joy was absolutely contagious. When you mix smiles, sunshine, and the kind of togetherness that only comes when people truly commit to learning and growing with one another; you capture real moments of joy and belonging.

Our Alabama Pre/Post Adoption Connections (APAC) program, has spent 25 years making sure Alabama’s children adopted through foster care, have families prepared to support their needs. APAC families have the assurance that they never have to walk their adoption journey alone. From the very beginning to every milestone that follows, APAC is standing by with free services, real connection, and events like this one that remind our families: you are seen, you are celebrated, and we are building community with you in mind.

We are so grateful to the generous photographers who volunteered their time and talent to capture these priceless memories:
