MO Granny Basketball

MO Granny Basketball Missouri Granny Basketball Women's six-on-six basketball. History: Dr. James Naismith invented basketball for men at the YMCA in 1892.

The game was adapted for women, spread quickly and was embraced by rural Iowans in 1898. Girls originally played in three courts with two guards, two forwards and two centers. One court was eliminated in 1935. The half-court game increased in popularity through the 1940s, 50s, 60s and 70s, but was eventually replaced by five-on-five, full-court basketball.
