Day One of the Teranga Conference is all about our youth!

We’re kicking things off with a Youth Dance Intensive for middle school and high school students — four incredible teachers guiding our young dancers through styles from across the African Diaspora. A full day of movement, culture, and connection.

To close out the day, Tima Karaga takes the floor with an electric n’dombolo dance class — a preview of everything coming the next day at Ailey.

This is where culture lives and the next generation rises.

NYCDOE educators, this one’s for you!

We’re proud to announce that the 2026 Teranga Conference will offer CTLE credits in partnership with Lehman College’s School of Education!

Complete two dance workshops + one lecture session = six CTLE credits.

But this is about more than credits. It’s about culturally responsive teaching, arts integration, and movement-based learning rooted in the traditions of the African Diaspora. Come connect with artists, scholars, and cultural practitioners — and walk away with real tools to bring culture and creativity into your classroom.

Come learn. Come move. Come grow with us.
