While we may have paused on outreach projects, our lead team at The Kindness Community is working hard on our Kind Co resource website. 🫶🏼

Wondering why our website is taking so long? Frankly, it’s about intention.

If we rushed to put it together it would end up like most other websites. Our goal is to not look like another online phone book. We understand how important it is to have these resources in one place, but we also want them to actually be useful and better accessible.

We’re building in depth cards for each resource with the information you need upfront. Instead of searching through websites or sitting on hold just to find out a resource won’t work for you, you’ll hopefully be able to know before you ever leave our website whether it’s an option for you. But the thing is, that isn't just it...

There will always be another good idea, another feature we want to add, and another way we can make this site better. We’re not waiting for perfection before we launch, but we do believe in setting the standard high enough that our next step is building on what we’ve already accomplished. Last thing we want is to say "We should have done that." and have to wait to do so.

Having a professional developer and engineer behind this project has given us the opportunity to build something now that we didn’t think would be within our reach for years. We’re taking that opportunity seriously and appreciate everyone's patience. A big thank you to Darkstar Development LLC for all their hard work behind the scenes making this better than we could have every imagined.

Below is a partial mock up of our outreach info page for Operation Kindness: Onslow County from our Kind Co team. This is NOT designed or the final design from our developer, but mock ups we send to them to assist in understanding our notes. Our final design and website will be launched in the coming months at our invite-only launch party, and then available online 24/7 with an additional walk thru video for the site.

We are at First United Methodist Church of Sneads Ferry until 2PM today giving out free resource information, Kind Co WIC and SNAP assistance "crash sheets," info on some other incredible community organizations, and goodies for kiddos!

Some of the most difficult battles people face happen behind closed doors. When a home becomes overwhelming it's rarely because someone simply "didn't clean" or are "lazy." More times often than not it's the result of grief, illness, disability, mental health struggles, financial hardship, or life happening all at once. People tend to easily become afraid and feel shameful, and instead of asking for help out of fear of judgement they simply continue to live in unhealthy conditions. Many times for years without family, friends, or neighbors having any idea. That's why we created Operation Kindness.

Our mission has never been to judge a situation. It's to meet people where they are and remind them they don't have to face everything alone. They may not feel comfortable asking for support from those closest to them, or maybe they live hundreds of miles away from home, so that's where we step in. A group of strangers united by the same goal: reminding someone in crisis that they are loved and cared for - entirely for free.

Amazing things can happen when we come together to practice kindness. 🩵💛🩷

Our recipient had their property called into the county by neighbors who were upset with their view, with a threat of daily fines looming. Our recipient is a senior, partially disabled, cancer survivor. Our recipient takes advantage of our county's resource services when able to keep food on their table, and to also share and help feed others in need (and also graciously fed our team when we finished!). Our recipient is another human, a kind and caring one, who just needed some helping hands rather than judgement and threats of fines when already struggling with the day to day.
Today we had SEVENTEEN incredibly selfless, caring individuals show up for our recipient to help their property comply with the county's requirements. From 7AM to 12PM we had a mixture of neighbors, friends, but most importantly strangers spend time on their days off to put someone else first. Overall we invested over 75 hours into this property in a single morning. From sorting trash and metal, landscaping, hauling trash to the dump, and helping with some maintenance tasks that couldn't be handled alone.
We realize a messy yard can upset people, we aren't ignorant to wanting others to take care of their own property in the same way you may your own. But approach is huge, and it makes a massive difference in how situations like this can be handled moving forward. Our recipient never meant to hurt anyone, annoy someone's view, or otherwise be a bother. They even tried to clean up the property themselves until they were passed out without help in the backyard in this summer heat.
While we cannot help everyone on a emergency basis, we try our best. No one should risk their lives to comply with a neighbors complaint, and no one should feel alienated within their own home due to complaints rather than conversation and help. As always we are continously grateful for our recipients who welcome us onto their properties and trust us to help them, even if it can be uncomfortable or scary at first. We do our best to make sure our recipients are respected, protected, and cared for first and foremost.

We will be working on figuring out more resources for assistance for this recipient moving forward. If anyone would be willing to donate lawn services, or a couple of people, the team at OK and our recipient would be forever grateful. No seniors should be out here having to mow or w**d eat in this heat, and if something falls or gets out of place it's our hope people will practice kindness and offer a lending hand - not call the county.

We are still in need of helping hands!

𝗩𝗢𝗟𝗨𝗡𝗧𝗘𝗘𝗥𝗦 𝗡𝗘𝗘𝗗𝗘𝗗 | 𝗢𝗣𝗘𝗥𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡 𝗞𝗜𝗡𝗗𝗡𝗘𝗦𝗦 𝗘𝗠𝗘𝗥𝗚𝗘𝗡𝗖𝗬 𝗔𝗦𝗦𝗜𝗦𝗧𝗔𝗡𝗖𝗘 𝗠𝗜𝗦𝗦𝗜𝗢𝗡

We're organizing an emergency assistance mission to help a local cancer survivor whose property has fallen behind during an incredibly difficult season of life. The county has graciously given us an extension until July 15th before daily fines begin, which means we have one opportunity to come together and get this yard back under control. We can offer signed volunteer hours to those who need or want them!

We're looking for:
🫱🏻‍🫲🏼 At least 10 committed volunteers
🛻 1 - 2 open trailers and trucks for dump runs
💪🏼 Helping hands for lifting, loading, mowing, w**d trimming, brush removal, and general yard cleanup

There is scrap metal on the property that can help offset dump fees, and we'll reimburse fuel costs for volunteers making dump runs (with receipts).

This is a large project and because we're working on a tight deadline, we're asking that anyone who volunteers is able to commit to showing up. Every person makes a difference, and reliable volunteers are what make missions like this possible.
