We've received quite a few questions recently about how people can get involved with Operation Kindness so we are officially opening our volunteer application outside of specific project applications!

As our program continues to grow we're building a roster of individuals who are interested in supporting our mission. Submitting an application does not mean you'll be contacted immediately, nor does it commit you to volunteering for every project. Instead, we'll keep your information on file and reach out by email or phone when volunteer opportunities become available.

While many people think of Operation Kindness as hands on project days there are many ways to make an impact behind the scenes as well. We're also looking for individuals interested in fundraising, sponsorship outreach, grant writing, community partnerships, administrative support, and other areas that help keep the program moving forward.

Whether you can lend your hands, your skills, or your time, we'd love to hear from you. Thank you for helping us create fresh starts for families in our community. โค๏ธ

And that's a wrap! โœจ๏ธ

We know many of you are excited to see the transformation, and we are too! Before we share any before and after photos as always we're going to give the family the opportunity to come home, take it all in, and enjoy their space first. After all this belongs to them.

We'll share more soon but for tonight we're simply grateful for a community that continues to show up for one another.
Thank you to our volunteers and supporters for helping us turn kindness into action. ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿ’—

We're out volunteering today! ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿ’—

This morning our team is coming together to help a local mom who has been carrying more than anyone should have to carry alone. Sometimes life gets overwhelming and that's where community steps in. Today we'll be spending the day cleaning, organizing, and helping create a fresh start so one family can focus a little less on stress and a little more on what matters most.

We are incredibly grateful to every volunteer, supporter, and sponsor who makes these projects possible. Your kindness is what turns compassion into action.

Drop a ๐Ÿ’™ below to cheer on our volunteers as they get to work today!

Monique is one of the most incredible women we are blessed to know and have a part of our OK team. She is new to our unique volunteering experience but has quickly shown how deep her dedication runs when helping others in need. Our last project she tackled an entire room by herself as a first timer! We are so lucky to have yet another strong minded, willing, and passionate woman on our team that not only shows up for her own family every day but for others as well both at work and with her volunteer service.

I was born in Washington D.C, and raised in Ohio. I joined the United States Marine Corps right out of high school. I have been in Jacksonville now for over a decade and I absolutely love this community. Through my profession of working with children and families, I have had the opportunity to really engage and connect with the community of Jacksonville through various organizations. I love the giving and caring spirit of the community and such an overall feeling of wanting to help others.
My profession is one of serving and giving back to children and families, so Operation Kindness is aligned with my professional and personal values. I came to know about Operation Kindness a few years ago and the amazing work with giving back and giving people the opportunity to seek help, when that is a hard thing to do. As a mother of 3, I have been where I have found it hard to ask for help when I recognized I needed it. So it is such an honor to be a part of a program that can help those who feel like there is no help for them, or they do not know where to even start, or feel embarrassed to ask for help. I love that I get to be a part of providing a second chance for someone and to do it with others who feel the same is even more amazing.

Alyson is one of our new volunteers! She has been with us for one project so far and plans to be at our next. We are so grateful to have yet another strong woman on our team that has a head down let's get it done attitude. Alyson is also balancing multiple hats of her own while volunteering in her free time, and we know how precious that is. Thank you Alyson for being such a great addition to our team!

I was born in Florida and raised in New York. I am a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, and although I am no longer serving, I remain closely connected to the military lifestyle through my husband, who is still on active duty. Over the years, I have grown to love the community in Jacksonville and the people who make it so special.

Helping others has always been a passion of mine, so when I learned about the work Operation Kindness was doing, I immediately knew I wanted to get involved and contribute in any way I could. As a mother, spouse, full-time employee, and full-time student, I understand how stressful and overwhelming life can become, and how easy it is to fall behind. Having the opportunity to give back to this community and support those who truly need it is both an honor and a privilege.

Over the course of two very long days, 10+ volunteers came together to help restore safety, dignity, and stability to the home of a local couple right here in Onslow County. A huge thank you to Small Town Heating and Air LLC for sponsoring our PPE, cleaning supplies, and a portion of the pest treatment expenses for this project. We are equally grateful to All In Outdoor Solutions LLC who donated approximately $1,400 worth of landscaping labor, outdoor cleanup, debris removal, and safety restoration work to make the property accessible and safe again outside the home.Together our volunteers dedicated more than 210 labor hours to this project. If this work had been billed the labor alone would have totaled an estimated $15,000 to $17,000 not including landscaping, pest treatment, PPE, supplies, hauling, repairs, or replacement needs.

This is why programs like Operation Kindness matter so deeply. The reality is that many families living in these conditions are not โ€œlazyโ€ or unwilling to help themselves. Most are facing overwhelming circumstances such as physical disability, chronic illness, grief, trauma, mental health struggles, financial hardship, or situations that have slowly spiraled beyond what they can safely manage alone. By the time many people reach out to us, they are carrying tremendous shame and isolation. Our applicant shared that they saw our application posted five separate times before finally building the courage to apply for help.

Our goal has never been to judge people. Our goal is to help create a safe, livable environment where families can begin to stabilize again. Where healthcare and social workers, family members, friends, pets, and support systems can safely access the home without fear or barriers. During these projects, families are placed in a hotel for the duration of the clean completely free of charge so they can rest, decompress, and return to a safer environment while volunteers work.

We also want to sincerely thank Taylor Hershy Photography LLC, who graciously hosted a pay-what-you-can photography fundraiser and donated the proceeds toward this projectโ€™s pest treatment expenses. Because of community support like this we were able to cover the final extensive treatment plan that will total close to $600.

Additional thanks goes out to every single volunteer, donor, and community member who stepped in behind the scenes. From those networking replacement items and resources while volunteers worked on-site, to those donating mattresses, appliances, supplies, encouragement, and time. A special thank you to the couple who donated a new flag for our Navy veteran as well, we are so grateful for people like you. And to one of our volunteer leads, Crystal, who has always been an asset with adding the finishing touches to every project such as fresh bedding, curtains, and other little necessities around the home. Every act of kindness mattered.

Lastly, our team would like to take a moment to honor Chef Jay of Philly Guy Subs, who generously helped feed volunteers during this project. We were heartbroken to learn of his unexpected passing shortly afterward. Small businesses and community partners like his are part of what makes this work possible, and we are dedicating this project in loving memory of his kindness and generosity.

The truth is that programs like this cannot function without volunteers. There is no single grant large enough, no single person strong enough, and no single organization capable of doing this work alone entirely unpaid. It takes community. It takes compassion. It takes people willing to show up whether for one project or for years behind the scenes and say, โ€œYou do not have to face this alone," to people they may never even meet.

There are far more families in our community struggling silently than most people realize. Operation Kindness exists to meet people where they are, without judgment, and help restore homes back into safe places to live and heal.

Once pest treatments are complete we will have Todd from Richlands Carpet Cleaning out to complete a thorough shampoo and extraction from this home. As well as bring in a new working oven graciously donated by someone in our community.

Thank you to our following partners and their donations to our efforts whether it was their first time doing so or joining us for yet another year.

We are so grateful for community support of our locally owned small businesses, because they in turn support programs like Operation Kindness: Onslow County! Our volunteers are fueled thanks to Blend Cafe so when we are regularly putting in very long days cleaning up homes it is much needed. Thank YOU for supporting local. โค๏ธ

I love sitting back and just watching people enjoy the Cafe!

Thank you for your continued support of our small business! You're supporting my own family, military wives, woman in college, girls in High School, charitable contributions we make back to the community, and more. It's never just a cup of coffee or a quick meal. You are helping people just like yourself. โ™ก

Thank you,
Erica
