NCOJ and partners were heard and listened to at the recent JEA Board meeting as the interim CEO said she would be focused on affordability for residents.

The JEA board is expected to formally vote on Jody Brooks as the utility’s interim CEO during a public meeting Friday, as Vickie Cavey prepares to leave the position.

The Northside Coalition of Jacksonville is launching the Northside Voter Connection Campaign, bringing together volunteers, organizations, and trusted messengers to help residents stay informed, connected, and ready to participate in the upcoming election.

There are several ways to get involved, including community canvassing, virtual phonebanking, in-person phonebanking, and postcard writing. You can join us for one opportunity or several.

We also welcome organizations that want to partner with us and help expand the reach of this nonpartisan voter engagement effort.

NCOJ is a member of the Duval Affordable Clean Energy Coalition and we went to JEA this morning to ask for greater transparency due to the cost of living crisis and climate crisis.

Together, we demanded three things from JEA:

1. Give us a date.
Tell Jacksonville ratepayers when coal will be retired at Northside.

2. Invest in clean energy.
Put our energy dollars toward solar, battery storage, and a cleaner, more affordable energy future — not more fossil fuel infrastructure.

3. Give ratepayers a seat at the table.
The people who pay the bills deserve a meaningful voice in how JEA is run, how our energy future is shaped, and how our money is spent.

We’ll keep pushing for a cleaner, more affordable, transparent, and accountable JEA.

Members of the Duval Affordable Clean Energy Coalition (including NCOJ) toured JEA’s Northside Generating Station.

We learned more about how JEA generates power which will help us engage in the conversation about Jacksonville’s energy future.

Today, The Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) and Democracy Defenders Fund (DDF) filed a federal lawsuit on behalf of Black Voters Matter Fund (BVMF) and the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) challenging H.B. 991, recently passed legislation that requires voters to provide documentary proof of citizenship or risk losing their right to register to vote, remain registered and cast a ballot.

Set to take effect Jan. 1, 2027, the anti-voter Florida SAVE Act requires the state to cross-check voter applications and existing registration against government databases and remove voters who don’t respond to a mailed notice within 30 days.
