VETERANS CALL FOR PASSAGE OF SOLDIERS & HEROES MONUMENTS & MEMORIALS PROTECTION ACT
Tallahassee - Veterans all around Florida are calling on Senator Randolph Bracy to schedule legislation to be heard in his Criminal Justice committee that would increase penalties for the defacing and destruction of veterans monuments and memorials throughout Florida.
The veterans are seeking an immediate hearing of Senate Bill 418 by Senator Greg Steube (R-Sarasota) which has been bottled up all session in Bracy’s Criminal Justice Committee. Stuebe, a veteran of the Global War on Terror sponsored the bill because “The memory of our fallen men and women must always be preserved and honored. This especially includes the protection of veteran observances in our state and around our country. These contemptible attempts to vandalize, discredit, and tarnish the memory of our veterans must be met with greater punishment."
"We are seeking an immediate hearing from Senator Bracy and failing that we call upon Senator Negron to move the bill himself as Senate President. Certain members of the Florida Senate appear to be anti-veteran and that's unacceptable," stated David McCallister, a spokesman for the group.
A news conference will be held in Tallahassee at the Florida Press Center on Monday, April 17th at 10:30 a.m. to discuss the issue. This will precede a march to the Old Capitol steps for a rally calling on Negron and Bracy to advance and the Senate to pass the bill.
