ALCON: No meeting next week as many schools have spring break and many cadets are traveling. Have a great spring break, we will see everyone on Tues March 25th.

For tonight's weekly meeting our topic was Aerospace. Our cadets continue to explore the Sphero Bolt stem kit. This time cadets were challenged by using a new way of controlling the Sphero's movement. Cadets had to really think hard on how to program the Sphero to intentionally write a core value on Banner paper using paint. It was a very challenging activity. In addition to that, our Cadets then had to use markers to write on their banners what that core value meant to them in either phrases or sentences. This led to a great character development lesson intertwined with our Aerospace lesson. In our debrief are cadets were able to really give great examples of how we live out our core values daily. Our Cadets did a great job learning a new way of programming are Sphero robots as well.

General cadet cadre applications for the upcoming Florida Wing Summer 2025 Encampment have opened!

Every year, the FLWG cadet encampment program seeks to provide a wealth of leadership opportunities to cadets looking to refine their leadership prowess, make lifelong connections with their peers, and play an active role in the development of the next generation of CAP leaders. The Summer encampment leadership team invites you to apply to take part in our upcoming summer encampment as a member of the cadet cadre team.

Cadets who would like to apply for positions should refer to the encampment website to begin their encampment application as soon as possible.

All applicants must upload a SIGNED PDF CAPF 60-81 which can also be found on the encampment website. The form must have parent/guardian signature for those cadets under the age of 18. ALL FORMS MUST HAVE YOUR SQUADRON COMMANDER SIGNATURE.

Please ensure that files submitted are named in this format:
"CADET_LASTNAME_FIRSTNAME_CAPID".
Any applications not following the above instructions will not be considered.

The 2025 Florida Wing Conference Registration is OPEN!

The conference will be held at the Drury Plaza Hotel in Disney Springs, Orlando from May 1-3, 2025.

Early registration special pricing ends February 28.
All registration ends on April 18.

News Flash! Just in from FLWG Cadet Programs!

Registration for Florida Leadership Academy NCO Academy and Training Officer Academy is extending registration!
Deadline to register is Wednesday 19 February 2025 at 2000.
(Deadline is extended just for these two academies. SNCO and CCC are full.)

FLA provides an environment for cadets to learn and practice skills that will prepare them for future leadership opportunities. The Training Officer Academy for Senior Members is designed to prepare Senior Members to serve as Training Officers at future encampments, or for newer members wanting to learn more about working with cadets.

It was PT night for the Squadron. Our physical training program follows the latest CAP guidelines. Cadets take part in a sit and reach, push up, curl up, and mile run activity. Our Squadron hosts a PT test every quarter to allow our Cadets to meet their PT requirement for their promotion and rank advancement. Great turnout tonight Cadets. Thank you to Capt. Mallory, one of our awesome senior member staff for running our PT program.

This week's meeting was our annual safety Stand Down.

Mr T. from Safety First CPR and First Aid Training provided us with some very important training and activities to help our Squadron focus on first aid and other safety training critical to the Civil Air Patrol mission.

This interactive and entertaining training session was a hit with our Cadets and guests.

Thank you to Safety First and Mr T for giving your time to come out and teach our Cadets about these important topics.

ALCON: in abundance of caution after reviewing additional data for tomorrow night, we are canceling tomorrow nights meeting and rescheduling the open house for next week January 28th. Please, advise folks you know that had intentions of attending as visitors.

Again, no meeting at all tomorrow night. Thank you. Be safe tomorrow night with the temps dropping and possible freezing rain later in the evening.
