is a nonprofit 501 (c) (3) organization created solely for the benefit of the Union County Animal Control dogs located in rural Lake Butler, FL. These dogs are not easily accessible to the public as prison inmates on the grounds of the kennels which restricts access. Consequently, there are no adoptions by the public. Almost all lost/ owner surrendered dogs come into animal control needing at leas
t basic vetting and medical care. Most have never been vaccinated, nor spay/neutered, and a huge percentage have not been provided heartworm prevention. Ninety percent of the dogs are heartworm positive. Many have been dumped, left to die in ditches and fields, hit or thrown out of cars and have been shot. Donations received are used to provide vet care for the dogs, including the treatment of Parvo and other diseases/injuries. Donations are also used to entice rescues to select dogs from Union County Animal Control for rescue as we can provide funds for them to provide vet care after rescuing. Since starting Friends of Union County Animal-FOUCA page we have had no euthanizations in the past 4 years. Before that time, Union County Animal Control was a high kill shelter. Our goal is to receive enough donations to always be able to provide medical care to the lost and abandoned dogs of Union County, Florida and to save 100% of the dogs in this rural, outdoor shelter. Before our non-profit was created Union County Animal Control was a high kill animal control.
