Lillie Darlene Miller disappeared from Riviera Beach, Florida, on December 11, 1981, and her case remains unsolved more than four decades later. Lillie was 21 years old at the time. She was born on September 17, 1960, and worked as a secretary at Riviera Beach City Hall. She was known as responsible, close to her family, active in her church, and not someone who would leave voluntarily without contacting loved ones.

On the day she vanished, Lillie left work during her lunch break to meet her fiancรฉ, Otis Morgan. According to Morgan, the two had lunch at his apartment in West Palm Beach. Lillie never returned to work afterward and was never seen or heard from again. Coworkers became concerned when she did not come back, which was completely out of character for her.

Later that same day, Lillieโ€™s car, a beige 1979 Pontiac Grand Prix, was found abandoned and unlocked in a field near the Riviera Beach municipal complex, not far from where she worked. The location and condition of the car immediately raised red flags for investigators. There were no clear signs explaining how or why the vehicle had been left there, and no trace of Lillie was found nearby.

Otis Morgan, Lillieโ€™s fiancรฉ, quickly became the primary suspect in her disappearance. Investigators focused heavily on him due to inconsistencies in his statements and other concerning circumstances. Lillie and Morgan had met through church, where she was active and taught Sunday school, and they were reportedly planning to get married. Despite being questioned by police, Morgan was never charged in connection with her disappearance.

During the investigation, police searched Morganโ€™s apartment and found evidence that further deepened suspicion, though it was not sufficient to bring formal charges. Witnesses also came forward with information that raised additional concerns, including reports related to the area where Lillieโ€™s car was discovered. Despite these leads, investigators were unable to determine exactly what happened to her or where she might be.

Less than a year after Lillie disappeared, on June 12, 1982, Otis Morgan died by su***de. That date was reportedly the same day he and Lillie had planned to be married. His death effectively ended the possibility of getting direct answers from the person investigators believed knew the most about what happened.

Lillie was last known to be wearing dress slacks, a blouse, a jacket, and black high-heeled shoes. She was carrying personal items including her engagement ring, a class ring, a watch, glasses, and a handbag with cash inside. None of these items were ever recovered.

Over time, Lillieโ€™s family was forced to hold a memorial service despite never receiving confirmation of what happened to her. Authorities believe she likely met with foul play, but without physical evidence or witnesses who could definitively place responsibility, the case remains officially unsolved.

Lillie Darlene Miller is still listed as a missing person, and her case remains open with the Riviera Beach Police Department. Anyone with information, no matter how small it may seem, is encouraged to contact the Riviera Beach Police Department. Tips can be directed to the departmentโ€™s non-emergency line at 561-845-4123, or callers can ask to speak with a detective regarding the Lillie Darlene Miller case from 1981. Information may help bring long-overdue answers and justice for Lillie and her family.

CREATING A NEW NORMAL

On September 8, 2008 my son Derrell Sharrard Baker was murdered at 7:30 am on his way to school in Jacksonville, Florida, he was 17 at the time of his death. My whole world changed when my son was taken from me through gun violence. The immense pain left behind for me and my children seemed to be unbearable. We stopped celebrating holidays and especially our favorite, Christmas. Derrell was my fatherโ€™s first grandson and my first born son. He was a little brother to his big sister and a big brother to his little sister and two younger brothers.

Taking my sonโ€™s life wasnโ€™t just another murder victim taken, a count added to the number of murders for the year. It wasnโ€™t just a news story or planning a funeral for a burial, it was for us โ€œCREATING A NEW NORMALโ€. The very community that had let us down by being silent about my sonโ€™s death needed to know what love truly is. Since we experienced this through Derrellโ€™s laughter, life and that amazing smile and his incredible energy we decided to reach out to this very community and anything that resembled it to make a difference. We are doing this for the homeless and to reach our youth through volunteering and showing them a better way. This is for our โ€œHYPEโ€ as he was so affectionately named by his football coach because of his energy on the field. We will forever remember you son. Take care of Bria and Brandon, who we also loss to violence. We love and miss you forever.
