Gateway Rescue Mission

Gateway Rescue Mission Gateway Rescue Mission meets the needs of the homeless through the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Gateway Rescue Mission was founded by Captain Len Martin of the Jackson Fire Department in 1948. Captain Martin was compelled to help the homeless, and Gateway Rescue Mission remains faithful to the charge to this day. Offering hope through the Gospel of Jesus Christ, Gateway Rescue Mission is committed to providing those in need with shelter, food, clothing, and rehabilitation. Our programs inclu

de 40 beds for men struggling with addiction, meals for our residents and a lunch that is provided 365 days a year to serve the homeless and hungry coming in from the streets. Check out our website at www.GatewayMission.org for more information or to donate to help us help those most in need. Gateway Rescue Mission is registered with the IRS as a 501(c)(3) non-profit and religious organization, and is 100% funded by private donations from individuals, churches, foundations, and businesses. Sales of donated items at our thrift store located in Pearl, MS also helps to support our ministry.

June is National Hunger Awareness Month
At Gateway Rescue Mission, we serve three hot meals every single day — breakfast, lunch, and dinner — to men, women, and children in Jackson who are hungry. Our noon lunch is open to anyone in the community who walks through our door, no questions asked.
Since 1948, feeding the hungry has been at the heart of who we are — because we believe a full stomach opens the door to a changed life.
Want to help stock our kitchen this month? We're always in need of industrial/commercial-sized donations of:

Canned vegetables ( #10 cans)
Canned fruit ( #10 cans)
Canned beans & peas
Canned tuna or chicken
Peanut butter (large containers)
Rice (25–50 lb bags)
Pasta & noodles
Oatmeal (large containers)
Cooking oil (1-gallon jugs)
Tomato sauce & diced tomatoes

Drop off donations at 328 S. Gallatin St., Jackson, MS or visit gatewaymission.org to give financially.

Yesterday was a perfect reminder that serving together strengthens our whole community.

We’re so thankful for the team from Select Specialty Hospital - Belhaven who came alongside us to help serve lunch to our guests yesterday. More than a meal was shared. They served up healthy portions of kindness, conversation, encouragement, and compassion as well.

It means so much when people take time out of their day to love on their neighbors and we’re grateful for partners who serve with such joy and humility.

“Serve one another humbly in love.” — Galatians 5:13

Thank you for being part of the mission and helping make Gateway feel like home for so many.

In 1948, a Jackson firefighter named Captain Len Martin walked past the train station and saw something he couldn't ignore — World War II veterans, men who had given everything for this country, sleeping on benches with nowhere to go.
He refused to look away.
That moment of compassion became Gateway Rescue Mission — and 78 years later, we're still here. Still serving. Still opening our doors to men battling the hardest fights of their lives.
This past Memorial Day, we honored those who served. And we recommit ourselves to those still fighting — right here in Jackson.
"Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one's life for one's friends." — John 15:13

One of the cool things about my job is that I get to see God at work all the time. Today is one of those days.
Rocky is sitting right outside my office. Every time I walk in or out, there he is — headphones on, locked in, working through his Peer Support Certification for Belmont Gardens.
Every single time I walk past him I think — God, you are amazing. He can move mountains if we just get out of the way and let Him lead.
Rocky is going to get the blessing of sitting across the table from men who are right where he used to be. And he'll know exactly what to say — because he lived it.
Nobody gets redeemed on a timeline they picked themselves.
This is why Gateway exists. One life at a time, one miracle at a time, on a calendar that God is constantly in charge of. Praise Jesus!!!

We had some very special "senior" shoppers stop by the Gateway Bargain Center!

Bride-to-be Stormy Ray and her bachelorette crew — Peyton Lee, Maddie Lee, Lily Lee, Jasmyne Flat, and Aaliyah Sharp — made our store part of their bachelorette party celebration, and we are HERE for it!

These ladies came dressed as little old grannies — complete with gray wigs, housedresses, canes, and hair rollers — and honestly? They nailed it.

Congratulations, Stormy! We wish you all the love and happiness as you head down the aisle!

Thank you for making Gateway Bargain Center part of your special day!

We loved having the JSU Honors College serve with us! From the moment they stepped into the kitchen, they got right to work—no hesitation, no slowing down—just steady, joyful service.

They handled every task like seasoned volunteers, jumping in wherever needed and making sure our guests were cared for with excellence. It’s a blessing to see hearts so willing to serve and hands so ready to help.

“Serve one another humbly in love.” – Galatians 5:13

We’re grateful for the way you showed up and set the tone. Come back and see us anytime—you know you’ve got a place here with us.

We are so grateful to recognize Jackson Graves for choosing Gateway as the recipient of his Eagle Scout project with Troop 8 of Mississippi.

Jackson collected generous donations and then went a step further by serving alongside a group of friends in our kitchen. What a beautiful example of leadership, compassion, and faith in action. When young people use their time and gifts to bless others, it strengthens our whole community.

Thank you, Jackson, for serving with such a willing heart. Your kindness reminds us of Galatians 5:13: “Serve one another humbly in love.”

We are thankful for you, for Troop 8, and for every hand and heart that helps make hope visible in Jackson.
