Talk about a small world! ✈️

Last week, on their way from meetings with New Mexico VTTV coaches and the state VA to presenting at the Western Governors' Association workshop, the team ran into Hanna, a member of our latest coaching cohort, completely by chance at Denver International Airport!

One of our favorite things about this work is the community it builds. Our coaches stay connected long after training ends, sometimes in the most unexpected places.

Stories, movement, and connection in the shadow of the Tetons! 🏔️

On Thursday, VTTV founder Julie Elledge and five of our VTTV coaches led a Story Quest Walk at the Western Governors' Association Health Beyond Healthcare workshop in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, hosted by Governor Mark Gordon.

The walk followed a panel on mental health and the outdoors, so participants got to put it into practice right away. Each coach led a small group of 6 to 9 people, and more than 50 participants joined in, from nonprofits, companies, and organizations across the west, all united by an interest in nature as a force for greater resilience and improved mental health.

Through stories, movement, and small-group coaching conversations, participants experienced firsthand how attention and connection can build resilience under pressure. That's what our coaches do with veterans every day, and it was amazing to share it with so many people who care about mental health.

Thank you to our coaches for showing up and leading with heart, and to the Western Governors' Association and Governor Gordon for including VTTV in this important conversation.

What a week in New Mexico! 🇺🇸

On Monday, the VTTV team sat down for lunch with our New Mexico VTTV coaches and we were honored to be joined by Brig. Gen. (Ret.) Jamison Herrera, Cabinet Secretary of the New Mexico Department of Veterans Services.

General Herrera presented VTTV Coach Al Tetreault with his certificate of completion! 🎉 Congratulations, Al. We're so proud of you.

General Herrera also gave each of our coaches a coin in recognition of their service to fellow veterans. Several of these coaches are well on their way to completing their certification, and it meant so much to see their commitment honored.

On Tuesday, the team visited the New Mexico Department of Veterans Services and met with its department's Deputy Director, Women Veterans Program Manager, Tribal Liaison, and Su***de Prevention Coordinator. Thank you all for your time and the great conversations about how we can work together to serve New Mexico's veterans.

Today, the team, along with VTTV partner and su***de prevention expert Kent Corso, is in Jackson Hole, Wyoming for the first day of the Western Governors' Association Health Beyond Healthcare workshop. Look for more on that tomorrow!

Our leadership team was in New Mexico to meet with our VTTV coaches and the New Mexico Department of Veterans' Services. Our first stop this week was with VTTV Coach Al Tetreault while he was at work. Al has been a part of the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta for 36 years. It was a pleasure to see him in action!

While we were there we ran into our friend Don Henderson who is the head photographer for the balloon festival! Don, thank you for taking this picture for us!

VTTV coaches meet the needs of veterans and their families in a variety of settings, including in the work happening at this amazing center dedicated to the health and wellbeing of veterans. We wanted to share this opportunity with you.

The National Veterans Wellness and Healing Center offers weeklong retreats several times per year for veterans, active-duty military, reservists, and their partners (spouse, friend, family member) who have been diagnosed with PTS (post-traumatic stress).

The center is accepting applications now for the last two retreats of 2026. The next one begins August 23rd. Applicants who are accepted receive free lodging, meals, and healing modalities, such as tai chi, in Angel Fire, NM in the beautiful Sangre de Cristo Mountains.

Now our team is 1,700 miles away in Savannah, GA, for the National Association of State Directors of Veterans Affairs (NASDVA) conference. Julie Elledge is speaking this week on veteran wellbeing, and she and VTTV Executive Director Ryan Elledge are connecting with veterans and state directors from all 50 states, D.C., and the territories.
