Lumen Christi Tight End Club

Lumen Christi Tight End Club Lumen Christi Football In the fall of 1992, a group of "Football Moms" gathered at the home of Sue Walicki to watch the films of the previous week's game.

After meeting at Sues' home for several weeks, it quickly became apparent the group needed someone to explain the game of football and interpret the films. Coach Frank Slaby volunteered to moderate the films and attempt to teach the game of football to the moms. The group met on Monday nights. The football dads, officially known as the "Quarterback Club" met on Tuesday nights to watch the films wi

th Coach Herb Brogan. The group felt they too needed a name. They refused to be called the Wide Receivers, and eventually chose the Tight Ends as a more appropriate name. The Tight End meetings not only improved the moms' understanding of the game of football, they also had the opportunity to meet and build friendships with other football moms. They learned that they weren't unique with sons that were always starving and incredibly bad smelling practice clothes. They discovered the many acts of kindness from the cheerleaders, locker signs, house signs and candy. To promote and demonstrate Titan Spirit, the Tight Ends ordered sweatshirts, t-shirts, etc. In 1996, at the Brighton scrimmage, the Tight Ends decided to provide the team with a spaghetti dinner before each week's game. The Tight Ends planned each week's dinner at the Monday night meeting. Today, in the fall of 2011, the Tight Ends continue. The Tight Ends is one of the unique traditions of Lumen Christi High School. To be a part of the Tight Ends is truly a wonderful experience and one that will not be forgotten. Thank you, Sue, for your inspiration and our beginning. (As told in the 2000 Tight End Club Cookbook)
