This past inspiring Shabbos was one our community will remember for a long time.

Over 60 members of our community and visitors from around the world, gathered for a Shabbat Farbrengen with Rabbi Mendel Scharf. The energy was filled with singing, dancing, meaningful conversations, and a beautiful sense of Jewish unity.

One of the most moving moments of the evening was Rabbi Scharf sharing his personal story from childhood.

After the passing of his father, he came to the main Chabad shul at 770 Eastern Parkway with his younger siblings to say Kaddish. As an eight year old boy who had just lost his father, it would have been easy to feel invisible in a shul filled with thousands of people. Yet the Rebbe noticed them.

The Rebbe made sure they always had a place. He made them feel seen, welcomed, and that they truly belonged.

It is remarkable to reflect on how a leader with ten thousand people in shul, with millions touched by his vision around the world, took the time to care so deeply for one grieving family. That simple act of compassion, done again and again over several years, left a lifelong impression and became a powerful lesson in what Jewish leadership looks like.

Another unforgettable part of the Farbrengen was welcoming four Israeli soldiers: Binyamin Hasten, Aitan Grinfeld, Yaal Eitzkovi, and Yehuda Goldshmit.

These brave young men have spent the past three years serving on the front lines defending the Jewish people. Two serves in Duvdevan, one in Sayaret Golani and the other in Egoz. One of them told the story of how he had been wounded after being shot in the leg during his service. Now visiting Grand Teton National Park, it was our privilege to welcome them with warmth, friendship, and communal love.

To be able to offer these heroes a place of refuge, comfort, hope, and family, even for a single Shabbos, was incredibly meaningful. Their presence reminded us of the sacrifices made every day to protect the Jewish people, and we were deeply grateful to share this special Shabbos together.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make this Shabbos so uplifting. May we continue to build a community where every person feels at home and where acts of kindness continue to inspire generations to come.

We are grateful to the Anti-Defamation League for bringing attention to this hate-motivated crime and for standing with our community against antisemitism. We also sincerely thank Mayor Arne Jorgensen for his leadership, for taking this incident seriously, and for giving it the attention it deserves.

We remain hopeful that the Jackson Police Department's investigation will lead to those responsible being identified and held accountable. We look forward to positive progress and will continue to keep our community updated as we learn more.

Thank you to everyone who has reached out with messages of support and solidarity. Your kindness and concern mean a great deal during this time.

JH Mountain Glow, a skincare business in downtown Jackson, was defaced with an antisemitic symbol over the weekend, kicking off an investigation by the Jackson Police Department.

Last Thursday, my dear friend Rabbi Shmuly Altein passed away after a six-year battle with sarcoma.

Shmuly and his wife, Adina, were close friends of Raizy and I. During his treatment journey, they visited us in Jackson Hole on their way from Winnipeg, and we had the privilege of spending time together. Raizy and I also had the privilege of spending time with Rabbi Shmuley on several occasions in NY while he underwent treatment. Like so many others, I was deeply inspired by his remarkable faith, strength, and positivity.

For six years, Shmuly fought like a lion. Despite enduring tremendous pain and uncertainty, he never stopped caring for others. He continued to teach, inspire, guide, and uplift everyone around him. His faith never wavered, and his warmth touched countless lives.

At just 43 years old, he leaves behind his devoted wife Adina and five beautiful children.

I am asking my friends and community to join me in supporting Shmuly's family during this incredibly difficult time. Any contribution, large or small, will help provide meaningful support and honor the legacy of an extraordinary husband, father, rabbi, and friend.
